terrible class. Everything is unorganized. All she does is brag about herself and tell stories. GSI wasn't helpful either. He would just rant about the reading and literally gave us no guidance. Assignments are ridiculous and she give unorganized guidance on those too. Overall, don't take this class. Worst class I have taken in Berkeley.

She's zany. Though she tends to stray from any sense of organization in her lectures, she delivers information-packed, entertaining narratives, day after day. The projects she assigned for Medical Anthropology were challenging, stimulating and represented her respect for the intellectual ability of undergraduates. I really enjoyed the course.

Nancy Scheper-Hughes showed herself to be very knowledgeable, generous with her help, and overall a warm and charming professor. Highly recommended as one anthropologist who real students of the field should study with. Those who want their hand held or are looking for a parental suggogate need not apply. She treats students with great respect.

She's very passionate about her work and her experience. The class was one in which hard work will pay off. But go to GSI office hours a lot. They're the ones who actually do the grading.

I really like her she makes you think about what is going on in the world besides our bourgeoisie bubble.GSI makes for class clarity she can be very vague when it comes to testing. I don't think it is anyones buissness regarding parenting skills especially a twenty something that probably doesn't have children.

She's a great lecturer, with amazing life experience and stories. Lecture's were unorganized. Make sure you pay attention in lecture though. Everything she says in Lecture is relevant, in some way, you just have to figure it out. GSI's were passionate! Lot's and lots' of reading. Too much to learn everything, that's why lec is important.

She does tell stories a lot, but they're interesting. She's a good speaker, but her lectures tend to lack organization and can be boring at times. Interesting readings, but a lot of them. Pay attention to little terms she throws out- they can appear on a test! Pick GSIs carefully!

Had to have several grad classes with her. She is the prima donna of the dept and is arrogant. Not at all interested in her students or working with her grad students. I'd avoid her, especially if an undergrad as she will turn you off of anthropology which is a shame.

I took this class a million years ago (1996!) and I'm STILL bitter that all of phys anth got at most three days. SH + Conkey co-taught the course, and I found them **** (anti-man)--I'm female, btw--and SH was megapretentious. She'd incongruously pronounce French words with a strong french accent while speaking otherwise normally! Tres bizarre.

I found her lectures thoroughly engaging-- she's passionate and conveys ideas well; and purely substantively, the course material readings were excellent- both personal narratives and theoretical essays. Of course she's famous so some kids idolize, which is funny to watch. She IS honestly at the forefront of the social sciences.

This class was terrible. The professor was terrible. Lectures have no point, other than for her to brag about herself. The exams/papers were not related to her life stroy (ie lecture). Though it was occassionally interesting, it was NOT worth my time, and it is not worth yours. if you want to take anthro 3, take a different proffesor. Really.

Prof. Scheper-Hughes tends to talk about herself and her work a lot, but this isn't so bad since she (and her work) are actually quite interesting. I also appreciate her principles. On the other hand, she is quite unapproachable.

Cultural relativism was nothing more than a thinly veiled term for moral relativism. The religious right (like me), had so much trouble with this class because we disagree fundamentally on moral values. Absolutely morality, following God's standard, is completely different from moral relativism.

I fully disagree with the overwhelming consensus that this class was boring or difficult to glean meaning from. Lectures were always engaging, just like hearing stories from anyone with fascinating life experiences would be. Meaning clearly relayed.

Some of her stories are interesting...but the content is just tedious. And you have to be able to type or write fast enough during lectures, otherwise ur gonna miss out. I liked the guest lecturers' lectures better than hers.
