Nan is such a sweet professor. She loves all of her students, is a little quirky and so funny. It was my first time taking ASL, and she really helped me to learn a lot really quickly. She is deaf, so the first few weeks of her class you feel a little overwhelmed not knowing anything but you get the hang of it. Come knowing the alphabet!!! 10/10

She's deaf, so asking questions can be intimidating, but she is really so kind. If you need her to repeat something, she will, and she'll always take the time to help you understand. She's passionate about what she teaches, and seriously made me love learning ASL. I had some problems with scheduling tests, and she was super understanding.

I learned a lot from Nan, but I felt it was hard for a 101 class. She was incredibly picky on the tests, and the average on the final was like 78%. There is a ton of out of class work too. All in all Nan is great, but it's really hard to contact her and this class is too hard. The reading quizzes were ridiculously specific, make sure you study!!

So this is an intro class and I learned a lot. Nanette is so kind and helpful when learning. I am grateful I took from her. I did have a couple times where there was a language barrier and I got questions wrong on a test because my handwriting was too sloppy or I used the abreviation "min." for minute . besides that it is a grate class.

ASL is a completely quite class, which seems daunting at first, but once you catch on and make friends its really fun. Hix is a great teacher and will help you understand if you get lost. I really enjoyed this class! As long as you know the signs for each unit the tests are pretty easy. She is picky about spelling though.

I loved Nan! Going into the class I was nervous because I could barely finger spell, but now I can have full on conversations with other ASL students. The class is completely silent, but I've never laughed more in a class. Tests are difficult but not too hard. Find people to practice with and you'll do great!

I absolutely loved this class! Professor Hix from day one was easy to understand and had a passion for teaching the 101 class. She also has a lot of funny stories about being Deaf. Attendance is mandatory and there is homework almost every class, but the homework is easy. If you are going to take ASL 101 take it from Professor Hix!

Nanette was one of my all-time favorite teachers I've ever had in my 5 semesters of college. She was so funny and such a cute lady. I felt that she was 100% sincere & dedicated in helping us learn the language. She didn't give us lessons that were too hard, but she also wasn't afraid to challenge us. Very clear on what she expected, and very kind.

I took this class for fun and loved it! Nanette is great! She is deaf, so asking questions can be intimidating at first, but she is so nice. And funny - we laughed out loud almost every class! She makes you work for your grade, but is fair. There is a lot of things to do outside of class - mandatory labs, ASL club and deaf community activities

I LOVED Nanette. It was my first time taking an ASL class and I came in not knowing what to expect from a deaf teacher. I had an absolute blast! She keeps you laughing the whole class. She's very easy to understand. It helps to know the ASL alphabet before class. She makes you work but you learn a ton. Not an easy A class. Hardly anyone got an A.

Nanette is hilarious and patient. At first I was nervous because I knew no ASL going in and she is Deaf, but I wouldn't have taken this from anyone else. She is friendly and willing to help. She has amazing teaching skills. One note: go to the CLLs that you can, even if they sound boring, or you'll find it difficult to get them done in the end.

Nan is seriously the best. I went in to her class having NO asl background and learned a ton from her. She's extremely patient and knows how to deal with inexperienced signers. She is deaf, but you learn so much so fast that it wasn't an issue. She is also hilarious! Loved her, learned a lot, and laughed every single class.

Hix is a good teacher. She is nice and fun, but not extremely helpful. Her grading sometimes made no sense, and no one in her class got an A. So good luck.

Nanette is a fantastic teacher. She's hilarious and excellent at communicating. It's an immersion class which can be difficult, but how else do you expect to learn a language? Definitely recommend her as a 101 teacher.

Nanette is a great teacher! She is one of the funniest people I've ever met! She makes things really clear and she is very patient if you're having a hard time understanding. I never felt like I had busy work, and we did presentations in class that really helped my ASL improve. I definitely recommend her as a teacher!

Don't take this class from her. She's nice, but so are the other teachers. TONS of assignments for a 101 class, and she grades HARD. You miss points for no reason. She doesn't like giving A's. Also pretty boring. Lots of repetition. Just don't take this from her. She's a great lady and she's funny, but if you want an A, take it from someone else.

Nanette is a wonderful teacher! She's hilarious! She is deaf and doesn't speak but is still able to make sure we understand what she is saying and teaching. I would love to take more classes from her! Definitely recommend her for 101.

She was okay. It wasn't a horrible class, but I definitely wouldn't call it fun. She's deaf, so you can't really ask her questions about the class or anything. Only take her if you have prior experience in ASL, otherwise you're pretty much screwed.

Very sweet lady, and I think she's good at teaching ASL. Sometimes, her teaching style can get kinda repetitive and boring...but for beginning ASL, she's one of your best bets. You'll learn a lot.
