Definitely a Professor I would recommend students to take. Made sure the classroom was a safe place for students to express themselves, share their different views, and learn from their mistakes. Took her time grading papers and made sure we had the opportunity to improve in our writing. Im extremely pleased with this course and the professor

Professor Zack raises interesting questions, but unfortunately like half of the lectures are incredibly boring. The papers aren't too difficult if you've done previous philosophy writing and stay on top of the readings. She's good overall, not too difficult of a class.

Well respected professor, but has a very sassy attitude... Shoots down whatever you say in class and then wonders why nobody likes to raise their hand to give a comment or thought.

Best professor of all time, hands down. The course was super thoughtfully put together and the material was fun to read. She brings a seriousness to class that I wish other professors would too--she actually corrects people. A real stickler about written work and so demanding. But I improved as a result of her high standards. 10/10

Agitprop Marxism. WooHoo. Could have just handed in MarxEngels and gotten a A++. Skip the class if you're not marxist.

Unlike almost every other professor I had at the U of O, this professor expected me to act like an adult. Her classes were not a public forum for students to speak about their ideas, it was a place to discuss readings and the material. I felt like I was attending university, not high school. Great!

I have never been more 50/50 on a professor. She is fairly engaging, and absolutely average in every possible category. She's not a particularly hard teacher but she FORCES you to do ALL the reading. I wouldn't take the class over again but only because I hate philosophy. As professor, she's "okay."

She doesn't allow students to get away with saying just anything. If you say something unintelligent be ready to be cut down. I wish more profs were like this. I have had too many classes in which students are allowed to say whatever they want regardless of the statement's validity. Is she "easy" ? no. Do you want easy or informative classes?

Philosophy is always interesting. At first I thought Prof Zack was mean but she ended up being funny and really tried to push students. I also didn't like how she didn't have powerpoints at first but ended up liking that she didn't. Papers get easier throughout the term. Just as GTF for help if in doubt and you'll get a good grade.

Naomi was an interesting professor to say the least. She makes a 300 person lecture into a discussion class which made philosophy a lot more bearable. The essays are very easy and she gives all the information you need to get an A on the papers in the lectures. She puts summary's of her lectures online so I was never lost even if I did fall asleep

Amazing! Best professor I've had yet! If you're intelligent and not too sensitive you'll love her, otherwise you might misinterpret or misunderstand her. She has the best intentions, is super sweet, and is unbelievably smart. Look her up on Google or see: http://pages.uoregon.edu/uophil/faculty/profiles/nzack/ if you don't believe me.

She explains readings well but can be a bit scary to challenge or question. You MUST do the readings but they're short and interesting. The GTF's do all the grading, based only on essays, which are graded difficultly but fairly. Just engage with your GTF and ask questions and you'll be good!

She can be pretty interesting in lectures, but they usually have nothing to do with the readings. Her GTF's do pretty much everything for her, and mine was a pretty tough grader. Sucks for me. No tests but the essays are graded pretty harshly. DO THE READING.

Naomi Zack is very knowledgeable about her subject and has a great sense of humor. With that said, she can be slightly frightening. She often comes across as condescending with her evaluation of students' comments, though it is my opinion that that is not her intention. She also makes a large class into a discussion rather than a lecture.

Comment:
The assignments and structure of the class really weren't clear or effective (and this was an intro/survey class). Didn't lecture much, so how much you learned depended on how well you understood the reading and how good your GTF and section were. Also had a condescending attitude, which eventually discouraged students from offering their opinions.

Take this class only if you're okay with writing at least 3 essays. I had to write 7 to get an A. Terrible class, not worth attending. This course and the professor are at fault for my hatred towards philosophy.
