Comment:

Nixon is a brilliant professor though she expects you to be as brilliant. She is a very tough grader. Unfortunately there was no time to see her in office hours and that reflected on my grade. I hope she learns to grade better for other students who take school very seriously.

I had her for a seminar course and she was absolutely amazing. We did about a book + article every week. Two papers and a group presentation/discussion + response sheet along with participation--which was just showing up for class. Really fun discussions with cool, random tangents. Would definitely take her again. One of the best profs at Concordia

It's a novel class so be ready to read. She is one of the most knowledgable and articulate academics I've come across. She also has a sense of humour which helps. She is tough when grading, but her comments allow for you to improve on the second essay. There are 6 quizzes, 2 papers, and a final. Read the books and you ought to do well.

She was one of the toughest profs I've had at Concordia, but it's not impossible to do well in her class either. You really have to work hard to impress her though. She's going to make sure that your sentences are logical, flowing, and unambiguous.

Lectures are long, dense, and boring. She gets off topic a lot of the time and its very hard to understand what shes trying to explain. I couldn't sit through another class with her even if I tried. Nice woman, so boring.

Professor Nixon is a highly intelligent and approachable woman. Incredibly helpful during office hours. She will kindly give out an extension for your paper if you need it without deducting any points. Her lectures are brilliant and she's got a great sense of humour. Attend *every* class since her lectures are dense and packed with important info!

Comment:

Nicola is a really great asset to the English department at Concordia. Her lectures are packed with interesting and funny anecdotes and historical information. Her tests and exams are slightly intimidating (passage identification and two essays in 3 hours!) but overall I really enjoyed taking her class and feel like I genuinely learned a lot.

Very clear speaker. It was very easy to take effective notes in this class. I would say attend as many classes as possible because if you do, you won't have to read all of the material in extreme depth. Never went to her office hours but i'm sure she's good 1 on 1

This prof has dense lectures but by the end of the course, you realize you've learnt a lot. My notes from this class are still useful to me. She usually asks obvious questions only to disagree with you. Not arrogant just doesn't have time for class discussion. Most kids stay quiet. Tests/Essays are not hard. Just do the work on time.

I expected to hate this class (American Poetry) but Professor Nixon made it captivating and nuanced. She is the kind of professor that inspires you and makes you want to be a better student, and I came out of that class with an award winning essay. If you take one of her classes, come prepared and always participate and you'll do well.

Wealth of knowledge. She knows her stuff. Took Am lit & Af-Am lit; both amazing. Hard work though; no slackers. Missed a few classes and she socked it to me. Still, she rewards for good essays and class participation. Relates works to present-day life. Encourages debates of other students comments and her own. Wicked sense of humor.

Dr. Nixon is incredibly knowledgable concerning literature and philosophy. Her lectures are very clear and well organized. Although her delivery is a bit dry, she has an active sense of humour. She can be a bit abrupt/intimidating, but in my experience is extremely supportive one on one.

Uninspired. She seemd bored with class and the texts she's teaching. She's fine on a one-to-one level but seems (i guess like all of us) to have certain agendas to play out which amount to certain obstinancies in her. Perhaps i misread her demeanor, perhaps i missed the humour.
