Comment:

Professor Aso is a sweetheart and it is easy to see why she gets a high level of respect from students. The class consisted of 3 main essays and 5 1-page outlines. The readings are not the worst if you just read the main points but if you are not a big reader, I highly recommend attending all of the lectures because for better guidance on the essay

Comment:

Noriko is one of the nicest professors I have had at UCSC! She genuinely cares for her students and the homework is not that bad. She also gives second chances. When I bombed my essay, she gave me some advice and let me retake it!

Professor Aso is a very sweet, understanding and helpful woman when you get a chance to actually talk to her. Lecture can be boring if you're not completely into Japanese history but if you are then it shouldn't be a problem. She's extremely knowledgable and can be unintentionally funny at times. You can easily get an A if you put in the effort.

She is nice but I believe she's not a good lecturer. I have trouble paying attention to a person who says uh, oh, um.. Alot! And she takes forever to get her point across! She takes random attendance!

If you need help she is willing to help. Nice and keeps the lectures interesting. There was a ton of reading set for this class and we only had 2 essays. Your grade in this class will depend on the effort you put into it. Its not hard but there will always be READING. She says ummm alot which kept me awake in class.

If you don't like Noriko, get out of America. She is one of the most caring professors at UCSC. She wants her students to learn and she doesn't feel like she has to kill them to do so. I learned a ton and didn't find myself completely stressed out at the end of the quarter. Great professor!
