I'm not sure if any of these people have taken this professor online, but don't take him for history 102 online. The material itself isn't that bad, but when it comes down to the quizzes or timed exams, the questions are so ambiguous. for example there was a video which vaguely touched on multiple subjects and the q would list em all as options

If you want an easy A please dont take his class. Prof Swendson is a great man, hes funny and straight up on social issues when talking about history, not young but very woke as a individual. DONT BUY THE BOOKS (Only buy HIS book) make sure you read the chapters if you want to pass the tests, youll get one extra credit assignemnt

Professor Swendson is the best history Professor I have ever had. I took him for both 101 and 102. He doesnt care about insignificant dates and people, he outlines the most important parts of history and teaches big picture stuff. He has changed my view on so many things. Just take good notes and read what he says. and you will be fine.

Wow such a great professor. Just make sure you buy his book to be understand what he is teaching in class and also buy the America Firsthand Book since he will quiz you on those. Also take good notes from those books and add them to the ones from class because you will be able to use your notes in the midterm and final. He also gives extra credit.

He has been teaching history for a long time so he knows his stuff. You cant bs on his quizzes, but you go to class take notes and read the books you will be fine. The only book you REALLY need is America Firsthand. He will take a article from that on quiz and rest is off his notes. Mid term/ Final are more opinion answers with facts to back u up

Super great teacher. I took him over the summer and didn't get below an A on any assignment. Clear and easy grader, he recommends the book he wrote, but all you need is the America Firsthand book, MUST-HAVE to pass all quizzes and tests! He was super funny and didn't assign any homework. Study for the quizzes, read the book, you'll get an A easy.

American first handbook is the only text you need. Read it and you'll do fine. Gives 5 quizes (drops one) and the mid-term and final. He is a very funny guy, knows how to make history enjoyable and relevent. Depending on how well you pay attention you may or may not have to take alot of notes. He is probably one of the best teachers at Elcamino.

I had worked hard to earn an A my first semester (Fall 2013) You need to take notes, but his lectures are pretty cool-but he seems to enjoy bringing up sex a lot! I recorded his lectures and that helped a ton! Be sure to get the America firsthand book and read it, 'cause he gives out pop quizzes! He is a pretty great teacher, but study!!

I got a C in this class, but it was because I kinda slacked off. Still, I learned a lot and Mr Swendson was funny and sarcastic. The exams are not easy, but not the most difficult if you study. Make sure you do the "America First Hand" readings because he sometimes gives pop quizzes on them worth up to 15 points each. Just study & you'll be fine.
