Although Dr. Maier's tests are extremely difficult he is the best teacher I have ever had. His tests are curved, and As usually start in the love 80s. He knows more about what he is teaching than anyone else at WMU, and he truly loves what he does. He brings enthusiasm to every class and makes you want to learn.

He is very easy going however, he did not prepare you at all for the tests. Had an issue with rambling off, which causes you to lose your attention. Some people say his lectures are riveting and enjoyable. I had the hardest time not falling asleep in his class. Avoid any classes with this professor.

I have had Maier for a number of classes now and he is the best lecturer I have ever had. Laid back, easy going, and the knowledge that man has! He just knows so much. His tests are difficult but curved. Can't say enough good things about him. I am sorry that next year will be his last. You can learn so much from him. Great prof and Great author!

He was the best Professor at WMU. He made History come alive. Classmates and I formed study group. I had him years ago and I still remember his lectures. He sounded like he personally knew the historic people. And he is a good Author as well.

Dr. Maier is one of the most interesting and knowledgeable profs I've had at WMU. Not to mention he's funny and easy-going. I recommend his class if you're interested in history and its details. The only problem I have with his method is the lack of study guides and clarity about the tests. He should at least inform us more.

I had him for Roman History, and was simply amazed by how much he knew. I asked a lot of questions and he could answer all of them easily. He's very nice and approachable, funny, and is passionate about his subject. If his area of study doesn't appeal to you don't bother, if you're interested in it though you'll really like this guy a lot

I loved, loved, loved him! Yes, the tests were really hard, but thank goodness for the curve. I found his enthusiasm for the topics very contagious. This man has so much knowledge, it is unreal. What a great guy!

Dr. Maier is a great teacher. He is interesting, knowledgeable, and witty. I wanted to go to his class each day. His tests are tough but as long as you take good notes and study they are based on a curve so you should 4. them. Easily one of the top history teachers at WMU and probably one of the top antiquity profs in the nation

Had him back in the 1980's and found him to be the best history prof. in the dept. at that time. I am a history major and teach it. his lectures were interesting and not hard to follow. his knowledge on the subject was second to none. his tests were challenging. but isn't that what college is suppose to do?

Ridiculously hard 100 Level class. It is impossible to learn anything from his lectures, because he just rambles on about nothing. The only way to do well is to memorize EVERY minute detail in the book, because that is what is on the test! And yes you have to do 2 book reports which do not help your grade.
