Comment:
Took Ralph three time during my time @ UTC. . 80-84. . . Majored in Psych and at that time; grading was simpler it sounds. . . If you wanted a B, "come to all classes" If you wanted an "A" , Come to all classes and write an excellent paper. Ralph's intent (I believe, Now 30 yrs later), is / was to make us think and self validate values.

Class discussions are very philisophical. Dr,. Hood is a genius, but at times speaks way over his students head. This class is not about getting a good grade. Doing a good job in this class means that you walk away with an appreciation for the things we DON'T know about religion and spirituality. It's about life. It's profound.

Dr Hood is an interesting professor. He is here to teach and learn equally. He makes you feel important to his class and is willing to listen to your input. He is available to help you personally.

Dr. Hood is a complete nut case, and that is the best thing about him. He's one of the most intelligent and well respected teachers in the department, and the foremost scholar in his study of snake handling churches. He's VERY eccentric and makes extremely NSFW jokes but he's hilarious and a genuinely good guy. He will definitely help. Must take!

Dr. Hood is brilliant! That being said, he is extremely hard to follow and at the end of a two hour lecture, I would walk out of class wondering what I had learned. Mini-paper topics were difficult to understand and my grades were all over the place with no feedback. There is an 8-12 page final paper that may increase or decrease your grade.

You will question everything you know about life if you take this class. I have no clue how he grades. Neither does he. Hard to follow his lectures, but they're usually entertaining. Class was usually cut short. He says he takes into account attendance, but since hardly anyone shows up (which is sad), he doesn't.

Comment:
Impossible to follow. Incredibly intelligent, if not too intelligent for UTC. That being said, he often gets lost in his own thoughts in lecture and changes the direction of his thoughts. Little to no clarity. The mini papers are difficult to decipher. Even if you read Robinson's book, you still won't understand the mini paper topic.

He's getting old and impossible to follow, and his grading scale seems entirely arbitrary. I had a difficult time following/understanding him, and I'm a pretty good student.

Hood is one of the few geniuses that are still around. Do sit in his class, attend to him talking, read a lot of books, and talk to him. His class is not about getting an A or not, it is an life-changing experience.

Definitely a brilliant professor. I wasn't always sure of what he was talking about because the course is a bit more philisophical than I had anticipated. Still not sure how he grades after writing four mini-papers, as my grades were all over the place, and I used the same formula to my writings. There is an optional final paper to raise your grade

Dr. Hood is brilliant, energetic, and to me very cool. This class is not a free pass, but if you're willing to jump in and do the work, you will love it and you will come out knowing a lot more than you knew before. (Isn't that the point of education !!?)

Comment:
Dr. Hood very unique. He is pretty interesting. Sometimes you can't really understand him but if you ask he'll repeat it or ask someone next to you. Class is a breeze, besides the length. No tests, only 5/6 mini papers (250 words max.) and an optional final paper of 8-12pgs. Extremely intelligent, fun, and nice guy.

I wish I knew you don't have to take Dr. Hood to graduate with a psych degree... I really didn't like his class. I was looking forward to it because I had read one of his books, but going to class is useless. He says that attendance counts, but it really doesn't. Don't attempt to understand how he grades... sometimes I don't think he knows either.

He never talks about anything in lectures, and his grading is unorthodox. He's big in philosophy, so if you don't like that don't take him. Now you can take a class he doesn't teach if he's not your style. It's psych 416 I think. He's a great guy, but I would have taken 416 if I had known it was an option.

Brace yourself. This professor goes so far beyond any class I have ever had, mainly in regards to knowledge and insanity. Following his lectures is hard, but extremely entertaining. You'll have to take one of his classes no matter what, so get ready!

Ralph is my hero...very philosophical to compliment the scientific...extremely knowledgable and entertaining...watch people's re-actions when Ralph enters the room for the first time...class work is about 8 one page papers and a final major paper (usually optional if you are content with making a B)...highly recommend Ralph Hood

Ralph was my Wednesday night entertainment for one semester. It was like going to church and the Comedy Catch at the same time. If you get a chance, take his class. Or, just sit in on some of his lectures. I really liked it when he blasted students for taking notes: "If you have to take notes, you just aren't getting it!"
