Lectures are unorganized and all over the place. Dorit appears knowledgeable about the subject matter but is incapable of translating his expertise to make sense in an Introductory level setting... Prof Dorit appeared to enjoy making things less comprehensible for his students. Going to office hours weekly is the only way to get a good grade...

Comment:

Dorito is funny and so good at talking about biology. His lectures always flew by. It is true that he is hard to track down and doesn't respond to email. One of the best profs in the bio department though, so I would take a class with him despite not being able to go to office hours.

I have taken college classes at 5 different colleges, and Rob is probably my favorite lecturer. Yes, the class is difficult. Spend less time complaining and more time taking notes and you will be fine. Record the lectures if you have to. He makes himself available for review and he's so funny.

Comment:

Rob is definitely what people say he is-- smart, humorous, somewhat arrogant and great lecturer. He makes you think. I've never had anyone teach me molecular biology in such an interesting way, and although it was tough, I loved it so much. Many don't do well in his class, but if you work hard and love bio, this class is worth it.

I loved Rob! He's so funny and his lectures are really engaging, and he really cares and wants everyone to succeed. I wish he had been a little bit clearer about what would be on the weekly quizzes - it's true he is a bit disorganized. But I still recommend his classes!

He is a GREAT professor! His class is challenging and engaging. He is one of the few professors that can make me never fall asleep in class. The tests are not easy (not supposed to be easy), but they help you to learn things and are not excruciatingly hard. and he is a very nice person. gives very useful advise as a advisor.

Unapproachable, unorganized, very very hard, very obscure, and kind of sadistic. I found his office hours slightly helpful, but he usually just told me to improve, without telling me what to improve. He's not clear at all. I do NOT recommend him!

Rob's classes are definitely not easy, but if you're willing to work at it, he'll make it worth your while. He's engaging in class, and damn entertaining. I've taken two classes with him already, and I'd absolutely take a third!

Rob is a really relaxed teacher. He's laid back, chatty, and engaged in his students - at least in a small class. I would assume that in an intense bio class, he would be a challenge. But he's genuinely interested in helping people learn, he's very sweet, and funny.

i love Rob Dorit! yeah he might not ever respond to his email, but you learn to live with it.... i can say that he's one of the only teachers here at Smith that have changed my life, he took his time to make me understand my life, and that weighs heavily when it comes to teachers. he's a nice and caring man. PERIOD.
