A very passionate history teacher that loves what he teaches. Pay attention in class, take good notes, create study groups, and you should be good to go. Essays and quizzes are tough but summaries are a breeze once you get the hang of them. Textbooks are really important! Overall a really great teacher but you do have to put in time and effort!

One of the most passionate professors I had. It was always a pleasure to come to class. He might seem strict in the beginning but he will joke around. Only 4 papers/ he dropped one , a few summaries, and a couple a quizzes. Pay attention in class, study before the quiz and you'll have an A. PS: I wish I could take all his classes.

Great teacher. Pay attention in class and you will get a good grade. Knows what he's talking about. He drops lowest quiz, paper, and summary. Textbook not needed as long as you pay attention in class. Everything on quizes is taught in class. Essays not easy but doable.

Professor Gourley is an amazing professor. His classes are fun and interactive with his powerpoints. His exams are easy as long as you took the notes. He has usual punchlines and cheesy jokes that make the class fun.

Robert Gourley is hands down one of the best college professors I have ever had. The passion he has for his subject is unrivaled. You should attend the lectures and take notes, but he'll be more than willing to work with you if you're having trouble. History could very easily be boring; with Gourley it is not.

Honestly, I'm never going to take another history teacher. He really loves history. He's really clear. He has about 5-6 papers ranging from 3-5 pages each, and at least 3 quizzes. He drops the lowest quiz and paper grade. Don't need the textbook, just pay attention and take good notes.

Nice teacher. At the first class he was talking about how harsh he'll be on grading essays, so i was afraid that I'd drop the class, but i got A on all the essays, and I'm a non-native speaker! Quizzes are not hard, just take notes of everything he's saying. Test-essays are also not hard. Just take notes and read the book!

He is very hard, but in some aspects he is an easy grader especially on papers. When he lectures, the material that he lectures on is not on the quizzes or tests. I get lost even though I record everything.

I took multiple classes with him, and I firmly believe that he is what a true professor is supposed to be! He won't pass you for just having a pulse, but he knows EVERYTHING about his subject, loves it, and is more than willing to share his vast knowledge. Just pay attention, do the work and you are guaranteed an A.

He appears to be strict and a hard grader but he really isn't i mean you have to do work and attend class but he is very straight forward. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention to lectures. Simplifies history and makes it easy to understand. Not too much homework just reading, essays and summaries here n there.

Only take Robert Gourley, if you are prepared to work numerous hours everyday of class, after coming home. His teaching ethic is flagrantly arrogant. He always tailors his lectures with very large vocabulary, so that the students get lost. He enjoys it, the arrogance spews out of him with great force. He does not bother to go into much extra detail

One of my favorite teachers of all time. Very enthusiastic toward the material. His classes aren't history lectures, they are story telling sessions of amazing events that have happened in history. His tests are easy if you are the type of person to pay attention and take notes.(Go figure, that's what's expected of college students).

Good professor, teaches pretty clearly, but high expectations of students on papers as well as quizzes and tests. Attendance mandatory, once at the beginning of the class, and after the break (2 sign in sheets if 3hr class.).

Professor Gourley is by far the best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of studying under. His knowledge and is love for his subject are truly inspiring. The classes will not always be easy (although they were easy for me). I took 3 classes with him and although I have already left Oakton, I plan on taking more just because I enjoyed it so much.

By far, the best history professor I've ever had. If you have any interest in Greek/Roman histories, you will love this guy. He describes history from political, philosophical and military aspects instead of just straight facts. Easy A if you listen!!
