This class is ridiculously easy. I took it in the summer and we had 14 journals, 2 in-class essays, 1 take home. We had to recite and read and a poem. Easy A, but you have to put up with his run-on lectures about NOTHING! He tells you exactly what is going to be on the test and how to answer it. Anyone who doesn't pass has to be an idiot!

I took his class with a friend. i would work hard and she would slak and she got better grades than me. I think he did not like me and even called me cheap. i would NOT recommend to take this teacher. He does not even seam to enjoy teaching.

I wouldn't take him if I knew that he is very disorganized and scattered. He lost my papers more than once, which I wasn't allowed to re-do. The attendance is mandatory because you have to do a "journal" every class which are ODD and they make no sense to the relation to english. He makes you write essays and does not even explain them clearly.

Im an a and b student and i got a D in his class he is very disorganized he lost my papers more than once, attendance is mandatory because you have to do a journal every class which are totally pointless. very disappointed. despite the bad reviews, I gave him a shot. (mandatory attendance, if you're wondering) I am an A student (with one B...) and I received a D in his class. I'm no Shakespeare, but I am a self-taught learner and can write well enough to at least pass English 1! save yourself from this professor.

Very interesting class, really makes you think differently. Do the assigned reading & journals and you should be fine, but most importantly LISTEN to what he asks for & THINK carefully about what it is youre doing/writing. Proofread your writing before turning it in, make sure you do things CORRECTLY. One of the best teachers Ive ever had.

Comment:

Nickerson grades fairly; those unhappy with their grades think they write better than they really do. If you can stomach his cynicism, then its worth taking the class for his insightfulness. Journals and presentations should be easy As. The rest of the work should be just as easy if you listen to what he is asking for. This is an interesting class.

DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO GRADE. VERY UNFAIR. I DOUBT ANYONE EVER RECEIVED AN "A" ON THEIR WRITING. I was given a "C" on majority of my essays. Um, I was in AP English GIFTED all four years of high school AND I passed with an "A" each year. He's VERY unorganized!

This guy actually isn't that bad. He is very scattered in his thoughts and jokes around alot. His lectures are a bit lengthy but if you pay attention and do the work you will do fine.
