Comment:
Very easy class. 10 page paper is graded generously. Two tests are curved. Some movies were great, others super boring. Often gets off topic and preaches about his questionable political views. Class wasn't particularly fun or interesting, but was very easy. Would recommend if you're looking for a blow off Sociology elective.

Very easy class, I took him for drug & recovery and sports & Leisure. Great professor, I would make him philosopher king. Class is interesting, he will tell you his political views but he won't argue if you disagree. Do the paper and what it requires you will pass

Professor Russell and his class are USELESS.Russell calls himself a socialist and this is clearly shown in the way he uses his classroom as a political platform and talks about things unrelated to the class. Many times he has given us "facts" only to be proven wrong when he asks the TA to look it up.I did really well but WOULD NOT RECCOMEND AT ALL!!

He is awesome. So intelligent and funny. You don't need to take notes just listen and participate. He's very interesting and I learned a lot. Doesnt tolerate idiots who dont want to be there. Fun class. I made a B and didn't try hard.

He is very knowledgeable in this field and a few other fields. He rambles on a lot, embarrasses you if you're late, and bias (politically liberal). Other than that, he was funny, tests are simple if you read, and he reviews the day before the tests.

He was a good teacher. He rambles a lot, and most of the time it wont have anything to do with the subject. I didn't take notes and did not read the books and still made B's on the test. However I made an A on the paper and wound up with an A in the class so if you do good on the paper you pretty much can't fail.

Very, very disorganised. May come across as rude and unconcerned to students. There were 3 tests... which he "gave" the questions for, a ton of books, 1 A.A. required meeting, and a 10 pg term paper. I attended most of the time, always before tests, and hardly read for exams. Easy class... he is annoying though.

The syllabus means nothing! He talks about whatever is on his mind, and the class is so unstructured. So if you like structure, don't expect it from him. I have learned a few things, but nothing from what I was expecting. He gives you the questions for the test, but most are his opinions, or the books he didn't talk about

3 exams, 1 paper (8-10 pgs.)and 1 mandatory sit in at any A.A meeting. He gives you the questions which will be on the exams so show up the Thursday prior to test day and take notes. Read the emails the T.A gives you. He does tend to ramble on. DON'T SHOW UP LATE, DON'T LEAVE EARLY OR HE WILL EMBARRASS YOU.

curtis is undoubtedly the best prof on campus. he is insightful, experienced and intelligent. all u need to do to get an A is to go to class, listen to him speak and the rest takes care of itself (oh and theres a paper due at the end of sem) u do need to tolerate his pol views though if u disagree with him. but he does not curve. ever.

His film class was amazing overall. A couple of the films were near unbearable, but it's all still very worth it! The research paper was extremely fun to write and the only other thing is the final, which is really easy as long as you attend his review. As long as you're not easily offended, you'll love him! He's quite a character...

I took drug use and recovery and it was totally pointless!! He has absolutely no structure in his lectures. Its a waste of time going to class. If you are late he will call you out in front of the entire class. One good thing is that for test reviews he gives the questions that would be on the test!

I had a grad seminar w/ him for my masters. He came to class with a big bag of mixed nuts from Whole Foods, leaned WAY back in his chair and talked about gov't conspiracies. I love him. He's brilliant, kind, and most days its enough to just watch him talk. Not structured enough for some folks but you will learn! Also, he got me into my PhD program.
