Comment:

Dr. Horikami's class was by far one of the hardest online class I've taken, participation definitely matters in this class. She has quizzes every week and 3-chapter test every few weeks, along with lots discussions post. You can tell that Dr. Horikami truly cares about her students. She responses to emails quickly and is willing to help!

Comment:

I've been taking online classes for the last year and this is by far one of the hardest ones I have taken. This class requires TONS of reading but there are plenty of places to make points up. Quiz weekly, test every few weeks and a weekly discussion. There is also a few TED talks to post about along with one major project. Hardest part, quizzes.

I took this class online, 12 Chapter comments, 2 discussions , does give some extra credit, 12 Chapter Quiz, and 4 test. No final, 1 flyer assignment on a Bacteria. You also have to do a flyer worksheet and 3 flyer reviews. Make sure you do both attempts on quiz because that is where she gets most for her test questions.

Comment:

She is a harsh grader, she basically tells you to go read the chapter then take a quiz & test but some of the questions aren't even from the material she told us to read. The online content is confusing when she calls the chapters "modules" and the material doesn't match up. She was also not friendly when I sent an email about the confusion :/

She tells us our first test that it will be on chapter 1-3. I take the test and there was some material that was NOT in those chapters. Well that's because she is calling them "chapters," when they are in fact "modules." Very confusing. She was also extremely rude when asked about it. wouldn't recommend!!!! She also grades tough.

Pretty easy teacher and laid back. You have a quiz every week but as long as you read up on the stuff right before class you will be fine. Took the half online half in class ,textbook wasn't required.

At first I thought this teacher was a very smart woman and she was decently nice. She is intelligent but she will snap at you and be extremely rude if you ask a question. I was not expecting that. She is a very hard grader on quizzes and even docks points when you didn't even get the question wrong. I don't like this woman at all.

Well I have to say she is one of the best teachers I had so far for Bio and Micro. Very organized,provides a study guide (the key for to get A).Going to class is important, like 40% of test come from the notes and the rest is in the book. Study the notes and the study guide and you will not be even close to falling.

This professor is all business. Anyone that fails this class didn't study or just plain dumb. Dr. Horikami gives you everything you need to succeed. Her tests are standard difficulty, but she gives you a cheat sheet for every test for your study. Good professor.

While taking her online class, I believe that she is a very difficult grader. Read the book, more than once, and use her chapter notes. Make sure when you do discussions that they are VERY informative.

Dr Horikami's micro class was not easy, but it was really informative. She knows her material and is very helpful if you are willing to ask her questions. The key to passing her class is to use the handouts and study guides she gives you - this is where the tests come from. I'm hoping to take her for my biology classes as well.

Comment:

Best Professor I've ever had. Answers any and all questions you could ever ask. Makes the class as easy as is possible to make it. Online quizzes are taken directly from the online notes... study them, understand them, and you'll do fine. In-Class Tests are hard, but she gives a study guide and will answer any question on there if you're unable to.

She knows her stuff! Use her online chapter outlines and study questions to study for tests. She is clear in what she wants. Hints important things to study in class sometimes. It was a tough class for me since bio isnt my fav, I got a 79.5 and she wouldnt bump my grade up to a B so you get what you get in her class. It is college though!

You must go to class, If you you take notes and listen and treat it like the college level class that it is, you will do fine. She is very helpful, but often her personality is misinterpreted. She is very friendly, and wants you to do well. Plus, she gives you holiday candy :)

Doctor Horikami is a great teacher--one of the best I've ever had. Those of you who expect things to be handed out to you, be prepared. I never missed a class, took good notes, studied HARD, utilized online tools....did extremely well. You have to work for it, but she is a great teacher---one of the best.

I totally agree with the last comment that was made. As far a lab she is a great teacher but when it comes to lecture her powerpoints are very unclear and so is her teaching. I wished she used more analogies to explain things. I think she is a very smart person but just doesn't know how to convey what she knows.

Test difficulty is all over the place. Last test had questions that could only be answered by skipping to chapters we haven't read yet. Study guides are USELESS. Questions can be vague, and difficult to understand. 40$ lab manual is NOT USED. We're expected to print ALL lab materials. Lab quizzes are much easier than the online "quizzes".

Great professor. The key to pass her class is to print the power point presentations, handouts, ask questions in class, and of course try not to miss not even one class. She's always willing to answer questions. I would take her for BIO 2 but she doesn't teach it.
