If you are an astronomy student, then take this professor. Prof Lawrence loves astronomy and is very passionate about it. You will learn a lot about astronomy if you take this class. However, if you are not a science/math major, some of the concepts presented can be very math and science heavy. Excessive work amount, so no need to take if other maj

Extremely boring, all work is given online, not hard to do once you pay attention, everything is explained in class. However, sitting for class is the worst! Have a keurig in your bag, because you will need about 3 cups of coffee to stay awake

If you're looking for a natural science distribution DO NOT take professor Lawrence. Nice enough guy, but his class is so boring it seems to defy the laws of physics. He lectures for two hours straight with very little to say of interest. The amount of work in this class is insane for an NS distribution - and the work is dense and dull.

If you're thinking about taking this course to fill your NS distribution, RUN. This guy talked about what a hypothesis is for two hours, and he's making us learn algebra. This is not a class for those of us who aren't a science major. I'm an art student, I should not have to be in a class this difficult.

Lawrence was a great professor. I'm not big on science but he made his class enjoyable and easy to get through. His exams are easy as long as you study a little bit. He was very nice and he explains things well. The practice exams he gave were insanely helpful and brilliantly prepared me for the real exams. Great class. Would totally take him again

He is a great guy, means no harm, but this is not a class for non-majors. He goes way too into depth and it's had to follow a lot of the time. He's very funny and kind, and lets you do the two midterm exams over again gain half of the credit back. But if you just need a science elective to fit with your major requirements, don't take this.

This class probably would have been more interesting, but he teaches almost entirely through lectures. You can tell that he really has a passion for what he's talking about, though, and it's not difficult to do well as long as you study.

He is a very nice guy. Loves what he teaches and is very clear. Not a hard class, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done. So much information and a lot of reading. Two tests and a final, he provides study guides. Allows you to redo test for half credit. l but the moon project, the tedious night time sky observations really add to the load

He is very into what he teaches. He helps out a lot too. He gives out study guides and whats on them is what you'll find on the test. Sometimes his lectures tend to drag.

Two midterms and a final. noncumulative exams, just what you have learned since the last exam will be on the next test. A moon project that is a little hard but just listen to what he has to say and it will be much easier. Good guy and is fair about everything. Not much hw other than reading and submitting labs online every now and again. have fun.

Professor Lawrence is a wonderful professor. Sometimes his lectures can run a little long or be a little dry, but his quirky passion shows through in almost every lesson. This guy loves astronomy and he truly is an expert on it. He understands that most of the students in the course don't have strong backgrounds in math or science.

Not the biggest fan of Lawrence. Very uninterested in the students... raise my hand and he ignores it. You can literally sit on your laptop in that class and do nothing, but attendance is MANDATORY.

As someone who was expecting this class to be an introductory level astronomy class, this class is a lot more difficult than expected. If you're not good at math, I highly suggest you take another course. This teacher has already twice given us assignments that included math he had yet to explain.

Professor Lawrence is not good at returning grades. He is very overwhelmed and this semester he was too distracted. His study guides make the tests easy to do well on. The homework isn't too bad and neither is the class. But he took way to long to get grades back so you the whole semester you had no idea what kind of a grade you had.

Sadly I'll have to agree with the person below me. He's a mixed bag. If you're into this stuff or majoring in it, I strongly advise you to take his class, as he is very knowledgeable and you do actually learn. He's very kind but is strict on all his policies. Lots and lots of work and studying. His lectures are utterly dull and long.

Excellent professor. Boring material but he makes it easy to understand, goes out of his way to help students as much as he possibly can. Clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the material. Not much work, never touched the textbook only came to class and took notes and aced it. Easy tests. Highly recommended.

Let me start by saying that I am not a disgruntled student, I received a solid A. However, the leaps and bounds required to reach that point were phenomenal. We had 4 50-question homeworks, 4 lab assignments, 2 projects, 2 midterms and 1 final. I put more effort into this class than any ever. I Strongly recommend you seek an alternative course.

As long as you do the reading there is no need to pay attention in class; his lecture notes are very useful if you don't feel like doing the reading, and the outlines for each exam help! Just don't skimp on doing the moon project; it's possible to bs it but it takes a lot more work than just going out to look at the sky twice a week.
