Comment:
Dr. Hartmann really cares about the subject material and teaches this class in a seminar style. She does have trouble with technology but with a little help did just fine. She is really open to helping students with their papers and responds promptly to emails. This class is a challenge but fascinating if you have any interest in women's history.

Not very good with technology and gets frustrated with it easily. Only 3 papers in the class, all the same format, but was not very clear on what she wanted for the first one. Semi-difficult, but fair, grader and gives good comments. Make sure to contribute to the discussion. Very understanding and flexible with due dates, etc.

Comment:
She is almost entirely deaf. Going blind as well--if you sit in the front few rows she literally cannot see you when she's up on stage. She is not unkind, but entirely too self-righteous since she helped write the textbook. Tests are not difficult, and essay prompts are fair, but her grading of essays is not.

Overall, not an easy class, but not terribly hard. Recitation is required, lecture isn't. Keep up with your textbook, it's easier if you do. Essay prompts are difficult, but the TA should help you. Dr. Hartmann has a hard time using technology & the TAs have to help her a lot. Midterm/final's mult. choice questions can be tricky.

Essays prompts were not clear. After essays were proof read by professionals, average grade was recieved. She speaks very slow and often says "umm."

She was an extremely hard grader. Essay were very vague and confusing. Midterm and Final were ridiculous. She is technology retarded. This woman was a political junkie and on the biggest ego trip ever. This course is her life and shes up on a pedestal looking down at everyone. I would never take a class with this professor ever again!

Comment:
Ridiculously tough grader for a GEC class. Essay topics are vague- I've been regarded as a great writer by my teachers all my life and I pulled two C's and a B- on the three (yes, three) essays. Class was hindered almost regularly by her inability to operate PowerPoint or a media player. Made her political views very apparent the first day of class

Essay question are unclear and very difficult to answer. The multiple choice questions on her midterms and final are also extremely difficult as she gives you only possible answers to choose from. She treats the class like it's a major requirement and not a GEC. Good luck!

She is very heard to learn from. The class is based on essays written outside of class, so you nevewr really have to go to class if someone will mark you down for attendance on the sheet

She has a soothing voice that puts me to sleep. i can tell she wants to engage the class, but she rarely succeeds. a five page essay and 5 additional "mini-essays" for one midterm grade seem a bit much.
