Very nice. She clearly understands that there are students in a single class that are coming at the language at many different levels. Beware though: the required "course pack" of textbooks, CDs, and leaflets is not useful at all, and will likely run you $200 for materials you do not need. Buy the main two books and the online code only.

Well organized class. She really cares about students' improvement and is truly dedicated to teaching. A lot of writing homework. Grammar tests are not easy at all but there's no doubt that it is definitely a helpful class.

Lobello is a great professor! She really wants you to do well and clearly prepares a lot for class. The grammar tests were definitely hard, but participation and essays are worth more in your grade. I would recommend taking a class with her!

Comment:
Frankly, this class was waste of time. Professor Lobello, though well-prepared and helpful, runs an overly structured class, basically the same kinds of things every week, which got boring. There is a TON of grammar, and while my grammar isn't perfect, I really can't improve anymore from rote memorization after 5 years of french.

Comment:
Madame Lobello is very nice, but her class was the least engaging of the French classes that I've taken. The majority of (French 2190) class time was spent in a rigid, largely scripted, wait-your-turn style 'discussion' of typed questions that were given in advance. Besides that, however, the class was ok, but just ok.

Susan is the best professor I have had at cornell. She is genuinely concerned with the progress of each and every student and really wants YOU as an individual to improve. Her discussions are thought-provoking and interesting and she is very knowledgable. Her worksheets are the most efficient way I have ever learned ANYTHING at cornell.

She is amazing. This was my first language course at Cornell, and I came into it feeling apprehensive and shy; just weeks later I was actively contributing to discussions and even laughing at my mistakes. She sets up a profoundly warm and supportive classroom environment and infuses it with a great mix of activities. I really enjoyed this class!

She's energetic, fairly knowledgeable and a very generous grader. I would recommend her highly if it weren't for the fact that she is American and not French. Her accent isn't bad, but she is by no means a native speaker.

Great professor, I had her for 219. Very enthusiastic about what she teaches which makes it easier to do the work. Worksheets for every reading get tedious, though. Very attentive and makes every effort to help if you ask her. Extreeeemely fair grader.

Extremely nice woman who cares about her students. She gives personal attention when you need it, but not to the point of being overbearing. Obviously is interested in her subject matter.
