I recently took his short story course online. The class was great, it's the only online class I've seen that you're actually allowed to work at your own pace. Some of his instructions were a little hazy, but common sense can get you through that. The class was very easy, but it was also really fun.

I am currently enrolled in Mr. Barthel's class and could not be a happier customer. He keeps the class interesting with his stories about his days as a bootblack outside Grand Central Station. Talk about great material! And the quizzes both enlighten and entertain. I think he must own stock in #2 pencils LOL! Now I want to be a bootblack too!!!!

Very nice, offers feedback quickly, info is easy to understand and professor is very helpful and courteous! Enjoyed Childrens Lit a LOT! He made it fun and even opened sections early because we were all ahead of schedule.

Barthel would not answer any questions that I had. He pointed out that his directions were very clear when obviously they were not to me. that was very rude and I dropped the class but still have to retake it. I will have a different teacher!

I had Tom Barthel in 1975. He reminded me of Donald Sutherland then and now. He showed me that English can be interesting, challenging and fun. Great teacher. I remember that during our "Open House" for parents he was forced to wear a tie, but showed us he wasn't wearing any socks that day, just to be different. MEMORABLE!

when he found out i was having car problems, he picked me up in the morning and DROVE me to class. I never would have made it through the semester without Prof. Barthel. He is so kind and so loving in a non michael jackson way. He openly wept when two students failed his quiz on Poe. A GREAT MAN
