Comment:
Dr. Libretti has an amazing way of thinking about the integration of literary works, social constructs, political issues and economics. Agree with other students - clear writing, a strong thesis, and texts to support it are necessary. He gave me great feedback on how to improve my writing.

Dr. Libretti is an amazing professor. I couldn't have asked for a better one. Make sure to ask questions, try to participate, and be cool with him. The class was easy, I actually learned a LOT. The people that complain are the ones who are just trying to get by, don't show up to class, and choose to never speak. This is college people! A+ Good Man

Comment:
The main thing Dr. Libretti wants from students is solid analysis. If you make an assertion you better have textual evidence to support it. Come to class prepared to discuss. When you write, stick to your thesis and support it with the text and critical literature. It's not amateur hour just spouting your own opinion. You have to know the lit.

I had Tim for English 101 in Wilbur Wright College. He is a strange professor. He missed 4 days of class. He has sloppy hand writing. The point being is that from my experience , I wouldn't have him as a English professor. 1. He never responds to emails. 2. he doesn't put grades on blackboard. 3. isn't really specific of what he expects and boring

If you are self-conscious, or have no sense of humor, or don't want to learn, or don't want to read, or can't write, or don't take lecture notes, or want everything handed to you, or you don't visit prof's offices, don't take him. If you want perspective, insight, an unorthodox class, a true university class atmosphere, and mad hindsight, holla.

Comment:
Libretti is funny, creative and smart, making early American literature come alive. He introduces you to the methodologies of literary criticism, its conventions and research. He expects you to synthesize his classroom lectures with your own take on the texts. Students w/o a sense of humor won't appreciate his style.

Libretti rambles, doesn't cover half the material assigned and still expects you to know his angle. He is a hard grader and you can never understand his comments because they are chicken scratch. I know more about his personal life than I do about the subject matter he is supposed to be teaching.

Comment:
Libretti is just Libretti. He's excited by new ideas. He does approach things in a rather scattershot way, which actually kind of helped me a lot with trying to understand the possible approaches I can take in the class and overall program. He could stand to be clearer and a little more focused for the sake of other students, but I liked his work.

Libretti tends to ramble. A lot. Talks about his kids, TV, and other non-class related subjects. So often, in fact, I wondered if I'd be tested on it. Assignments weren't explained well even with clarification. Dropped the class for fear of my GPA and don't plan on taking another class with him!

Comment:
Dr. Libretti is a great guy and a very committed dept head. As a professor, he's a little inconsistent. He's funny and engaging when he's into a lecture -- long-winded and repetitive when he's not. For 345, summarizing class notes in exams and writing well-organized papers was all I needed for an A. He's really into thought-out, concise writing.

Why do they have this CLOWN as chairman for the English department?! He needs to GO!! He has no time for questions, and if you do have a question he just doesn't want to be bothered. Well, if he would only ease up on those funny cigarettes, maybe he would feel differently! This guys is a total FAKE with an overly FAT HEAD!

Man, this guy strated out and seemed cool...but really, he is a phony. He wants 5 paragraph essays. He says he is for "indp thought" but really, is just wants you to be ultra-liberal, and regurgetate work.

Dr. L. is an OK teacher but, I never thought I'd say this, but he plays favorites. After getting a C on my first paper I ran to an English tutor. What did I receive on the rest? C's. She couldn't understand it, for she had helped a young man who wrote the same as me and he got A's. Watch out and don't speak your mind in class.

This guy is all over the place. His grading is extremely tough and he expects grad school papers in a 200 level class. When he returns student's work, his comments are written so sloppily that they cannot be read. He seems cool at first, but his Big Lebowski act gets old as you realize that this will be your most difficult class.

I was looking forward to the novels chosen, but felt that the lectures were so all over the place that trying to extrapolate anything of substance from them made taking the class to the end of the semester would have been a huge waste of time.

All English Majors and Graduate Students need to take a theory class with Dr. Libretti. He is the best teacher for theory. He should stick to teaching Theory and African/Enthnic Lit. Run or wait to take this class, 430, or 410 with him. You will be grateful you did when you fly through your exams!

I've had him for a few different classes. I started off getting C's but my analytical abilities absolutely in my writing with him, and it has affected my ability to write papers for other, more difficult, professors. Those who complain, are usually the ones that don't analyze within the context of the material.

I thought his class was great. As long as you do the reading, go to class, and do the work you will be fine. He does assign a lot of reading, so it is important to keep up on it. He is very intelligent and enthusiastic.

Hard ass grader. Wow! You better be thinking what he is thinking or else your destined to get a 'C'. Unless he likes you. Plays favorites. Apparently has a fan club. You'll know halfway into the semester if he likes you. Also helps answer the questions for the people he does like. Will give dumbfounded looks and bust your balls to elaborate if not.
