I think these comments are a little bias. Someone wrote he is a horrible professor because you got an A-!I think he was very fair and funny. He does performance for a living, so he knows what he is talking about. You can email or see him in his office and ask him questions about the story, poem etc you decided to perform. Overall he was helpful.

This is by far the worst professor in the Speech Communications program. I would say that you should try and avoid him but the program requires that you take the class. I feel so sorry for the students that get him.

Prof. Gura is a highly animated proffessor. He is great at what he does and makes the class fun and interesting. Even though it may be difficult to get an A, don't let that effect your perception of him. He is helpful and very accomidating, so come in with a positive attitude and just sit back and enjoy the show.

He is the worst teacher I have ever taken. He doesn't give A's. He grades hard and is no real help to improve your grade during the semester. Be prepared for him to mess up you GPA. He is the only teacher for this class. If you have to take this class Get a E-Permit. This class is not worth the time or the money.

Professor Gura was very passionate about teaching. However, his class was rediculously hard and he was and extremely UNFAIR grader. Unless you are a Hollywood Actor/Actress you are NOT getting an A, so forget about it. He completely RUINED my 4.0 speech GPA with a B. Just remember, every1 else in the class must do it, so dont be embarrassed

I didn't have him for Speech - I had him for the Tragedies of Shakespeare, and anyone who can make that stuff funny is ok in my book. He reminded me of an oversized teddybear. He DOES give a quiz on every play, & his papers are difficult, but the class was fun, nonetheless!

I agree with the others. Very nice professor (chairman). Loves his work. But he is subjective on how he feels a performance should be done. He lets you choose performances only from his own textbook, He grades harshly so don't expect an A in his class. Workload, 5 performances (1st doesn't count), 1 paper, 1 final. 2nd paper:not mandatory.

Prof.Gura is wonderful-he is extremely thoughtful with how he approaches the class. The class itself is invaluable & will make you think about language & comm.more than you ever have(& will lead to a greater appreciation for the artistic forms of it...)His high standards are meant to encourage students to work harder-not discourage them! Good luck!

Prof. Gura is a very good instructor and has a passion for what he does. You will never get an A in his class, however. An A- at the most. So quit worrying right now and just enjoy the class and try to learn from it. You really will grow as a performer. Well, if your GPA used to be 4.0, it will be no more...

Worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. He kept asking me to choose certain performances that were much harder and then gave me lower grades. After being in a slew of plays, my performances never seemed to be good enough for him. Thanks to him i received my only A- in college, ruining my otherwise flawless transcript. Terrible man!
