Gavin is a Legend. If you want to impress him, you have to work hard. Working hard? Reading the chapter b4 and after class and doing the "damn problems". All future accountants should have a professor like Dr. Gavin because he will definitely teach you the meaning of perseverance. Class was very difficult, but extremely rewarding. Thank you Tom

Dr. Gavin is a brilliant professor and knows exactly what he is teaching about. The material is extremely hard as well as the tests but he breaks it down in a very understandable way. Go to class, read the book, and do the problems, otherwise you will not do well in this class. Hard but very rewarding.

I had Gavin in the mid 90s, & I can say without reservation that he is the only BACC prof at UTC who is in tune with the real world of business. He is quirky, but he is brilliant. If you are willing to put in the work, you can succeed in his class. The class isn't easy because BEING A CPA ISN'T EASY. I consider myself lucky to have had him.

if you take him he is cool and willing to help you get a C OR BETTER!! if you go to class and study his notes you will be sure to pass him. the only thing i didnt like was the articles for the wall street journal. overall he was a cool teacher... thought he was funny but he really wasnt lol. is very helpful and useful for the real world

Gavin's reputation for difficult tests really messed with my head, but it wasn't as bad as I'd heard. They are just extremely comprehensive, not intentionally tricky. I needed to go back to doing the exercises for 10-20 hours per chapter like I did for BACC 300, and memorize the definitions he wants.

terrible professor. not willing to help outside of class, and if you by chance do get some of his time he'll rush through and make you feel stupid. if you ask a question in class he'll either ignore you or answer you with a question and make you feel stupid....again.

This is a HARD class. Gavin works hard to make sure everyone understands something. I studied for hours (I'm talking 25-30 hrs per exam) and I did really well. You HAVE to put the time in and go over all the exercises and problems in the book for each chapter in order to do well or you WILL without a doubt fail!

i liked him a lot. down to earth guy and knows his**** he explains things until everyone understands it. dont feel uneasy about asking questions. he let me in the class late but i failed the first test due to being behind. A's on the next three and then a B on the last one. tests aren't super hard as long as you listen in class and study.

No doubt he knows his stuff and tries to teach you. Delivery is lacking. He seems scatter brained in lectures. Tests are unneccessarily difficult..word for word definitions! He can't remember what homework he assigned and when we went over it. Most everyone failed 1st test. I made B's in other intermediate classes! Just try to survive this!

seems like he was always burdened to help you, missed a couple of tests due to hurricane and illness, went to re-take them at his specified time and place and he never showed up, secretary knew nothing about it either, always very consumed with other work during his office hours, rushed through his answering of questions...
