I learned a tremendous amount of information in this class and and it helped solidify my interest in the film & media studies major. His powerpoints are a little disorganized and his accent is hard to understand sometimes but it gets better over time. Make sure you go to class and read the papers assigned!

Powerpoints are quite disorganized. Plenty of options to participate in class and online. Weekly quizzes. 2 tests (midterm and final). Occasionally gets really specific on his tests. Flexible, willing to help you out with your grade.

A lot of material to read and a lot of things to memorize. His powerpoints in class don't have much on them so you have to either take notes really fast or record his lectures because he doesn't let you use computers to take notes. He's a nice guy but the class was extremely difficult for a 250 and wouldn't recommend taking unless you love Russian.

Great Professor! Reasonable amount of work. We have movies, folklores, memoirs, novels, poems and even sitcoms! We technically watch TEN movies. Quizzes are sometimes tricky, but as long as you work toward it you will be fine. Sasha often quotes his own experience in USSR, which is very interesting and refreshing.

Sasha prokhorov is a great professor. He's very well versed in the subject matter, and approaches folk lore with a light, humorous tone. Lectures are enjoyable and informative, and the class was pretty easy. I never needed to ask him for help, although from what others have told me he could be difficult to reach sometimes.

Dr. Prokhorov is one of the best professors I've had so far! His lectures are entertaining, and he's also approachable outside of class. Be warned that there are a lot of readings, and you're expected to participate at least ten times throughout the semester; but it's a good class. As long as you understand the material, you'll do well.

Prokhorov was great in Russian Myths and Legends. It was an interesting topic that was made more interesting. My only complaint would be that he asks you to dedicate some time to films, lectures, and speakers outside of class and it's part of your grade. If you miss them you have to make it up on your own time. Participation is basically mandatory.

Sasha is awesome. He's super fun to have as a teacher. The class was a little odd - sometimes interesting, sometimes very very strange. There's a lot of reading, but I stopped doing it halfway through and did pretty well still. There are online quizzes, mandatory participation points, lots of out of class events, and a midterm/final. There's a lot.

Sasha is a passionate and hilarious teacher. His teaching style is slightly disorganized because he writes the important info allover on the board in a sporadic fashion. By utilizing jokes anecdotes and visual aids he makes the class more interesting. The class was not very hard but there were a lot of cultural components that are mandatory.

Prof. Prokhorov is hands down one of the best professors at W&M. He's hilarious! I'm so glad I got to take a class with him. Russian Myths & Legends was so much fun. You definitely learn a lot from him. His participation system was the only thing I didn't like but it definitely gets people to talk. Otherwise, the class is great! :)

Sasha is the sweetest and most adorable man you will ever meet. RUSN250 made me fully appreciate Russia and its history. Class is fair, clear, engaging, and has extra credit opportunities. Attendance is mandatory. Also, there are many required readings and out-of-class time commitments. Sasha's class was the best class I have taken at W&M.

Sasha Prokhorov - As unyielding a foe of patriarchy as he is a gentle and passionate lover. Tears down the walls of white privilege with the impetuous rage of the great Russian bear. In his knowing visage one can see the struggles of generations. Calm in the hour of chaos, history bends to his will. Worship him, learn from him.

Sasha is fantastic, wish I could take more classes with him! He's hilarious, he uses modern day references to tie in with folklore/fairytales and he actually answers e-mails sent to him. The Ruble system kinda sucks but it becomes like a competition at first then once you have the requirement you can lay back and pay attention a little better.

Awesome professor. I love this guy--Funny, smart, very nice, helpful, and fair. There was a lot of reading, and quizzes could be hard at times but it's not extremely difficult to get a good grade in his class. Beware of the ruble system though. And he has a cute accent.
