Professor Downie is the most skillful professor I have ever had. His genuine interest in my personal and academic development sparked my journey from CCM to Cornell University to Harvard Law School. He is a prince of a man; further, his analytical frameworks for critical engagement with texts laid the foundation for the rest of my education.

My initial reaction to Professor Downie was one of complete indifference. Thru his genuine interest in working with me, he changed my perspective on education, writing & learning to receive constructive feedback. 20 years after taking his class, and after countless articles, I am about to publish my 1st book & it will be dedicated in part to him.

Downie expects way to much from his students! It's his way or no way, and there is no in between. He treats his students like we are his grandchildren and he seems like he is old enough to be there great-grandfather! Worst class I have ever taken!

This professor can get on your case if you do not pay attention in class. His lectures are understandable. If you are not satisfied with a particular you have, he will give you a second chance to recover and give you a deadline with it is due.. The one thing that helped me the most if the group conferences.

He was unreasonable, anal-retentive, not nice, unhelpful, conceited, boring, played favorites,...I could go on and on. I am a very good writer (NEVER received less than a B on ANY paper) and he gave me a D+! Honestly, he was the WORST professor I have EVER had! DO NOT TAKE HIM!

If you want to learn to write, TAKE THIS CLASS. You have to work for an A but it's worth it. He taught me to write well. He is reasonable and very clear with the format he wants and if you follow it, you'll get an A. The format he taught has helped me with every paper I have written since.

this is the single worst professor that ccm has on its staff, he is very mean, unpleasent, rude, and somewhat boring. he assigns paper where he cant remember the topics and doesnt know what the topics are to begin with. he should have retired years ago

Prof. Downie is one of the most dynamic professors that I have had the pleasure of working with. He expects a lot from his students; if you are looking for a thorough and serious professor who has a geniune passion for literature, then take his courses.
