Professor Serrano-Ripoll is an average professor. I don't recommend her and I don't not recommend. Just your run-of-the-mill Spanish professor who goes strictly by the boring book. She's nice enough but you could find better. She is mostly a fair grader but airs a little on the harsher side on writing.

A lot of the problems that I ran into were due to the department being difficult. But she did not make it any better. She will not forgive any excused absences and in the beginning can be a very harsh grader. Eventually she will just look for general improvement, but at that point you'll have to drag your grade up. Good luck!

Extremely easy A if you're willing to work for it. Homework is based solely on completion and is a large part of your grade, as is participation. Tests aren't too bad and she tells you exactly what to expect beforehand. Slightly hard grader on essays, but awards improvement. Also just a really nice lady.

Professor Serrano-Ripoll is very kind and patient, which made Spanish class much more relaxing for someone like me who is always nervous about making mistakes. She has great enthusiasm for Spanish and I would definitely recommend taking her class!

I absolutely loved her. She's such a sweetheart and she will work with you if you have any difficulties. I learned a lot and thought it was an easy A. I handed a lot of assignments in late (one the last class before the final) and still did really well in the class. I highly recommend her. Attendance is "mandatory" but I missed 7+ classes.

I really enjoyed Spanish before Prof Serrano. Almost zero verbal practice. The whole course is grammar worksheets. I never saw my grade until the final was posted, and it was very low compared to my average test scores. She's not the worst, but there are better professors out there, especially if you actually want to learn to speak Spanish.

I came from having Yates, so I can tell you that Serrano is not the best in the dept. She tries to teach grammar in Spanish, which I never understood - luckily, not much new material in SPAN 4. I know she means well, but my most vivid memory of her class is of her remonstrating at least 4x per class: "Aye, Chicos!" - as if we already spoke Span.

Great class. Professor Serrano is so nice and she tries very hard to keep the class entertaining (it is grammar, after all). Grades compositions pretty harshly but she's lenient on tests. Attendance is mandatory and she does know if you're gone. But overall, I really enjoyed taking her class. Definitely recommended.

She's a flake; her teaching style is nonexistent and you never know what you're expected to be doing at a given time. She also gets pissed off when you ask about your grade and grades VERY unfairly. Get out if you can.

She does a lot of speaking exercises in class and if you dont understand what is going on she will pick you to answer a question-at first it annoyed me but I learned more becuase she would pick me.

Difficult class for a non-native speaker, but she will bend over backward to help someone who wants to learn the language.
