He's nice and he knows the materials well, his lectures are straightforward and not too boring. Occasionally, he asks some fun clicker questions to help raise everyone's clicker grade. However, his lectures won't help you with the test. His tests are mostly math, so practicing what's on the practice test will help you more.

I think that I cna say Chemistry is a pretty challenging subject, especially in Stony Brook. But this professor doesnt help you with it. His lectures are very boring, but you should definetley be present and stay on top of your work in this course. 3 midterms + final thats worth twice. The class is heavily based on exam grades, study hard for them

CHE 129 is known for being a really difficult class but Professor Simmerling is able to explain the concepts in a way where it can be easy to understand. There is a lot of homework so but he'll drop a lot of grades at the end of the semester. For exams make sure you review the clicker questions and the practice tests and you should do well

Very fast paced so it's easy to fall behind. Most of the learning you're going to do is on your own. Homework is always on new material and reviewed in class. He's very knowledgeable in his field, but if you have trouble with chemistry you'll be lost most of the time. Definitely wouldn't recommend if it's your first time taking chemistry.

He's a nice guy but my lord the lectures were mad confusing at times. Most people just dipped and never showed back up to them. Pay attention bc you never know when he might use one of those stupid clicker questions for an exam. Also study up ya'll bc you might not make it with a passing grade, I for sure thought I'd have to take the class again

There are clicker questions so its easy extra points so go to class. He was a bit confusing/annoying sometimes with his lectures but he wasnt difficult. If you do all/most of the Aleks and other hw you'll do well. Do his review tests cuz his final was exactly like the review test packet and he based ur final class grade on ur final exam score

Overall not a hard class. His tests aren't tricky, they test comprehension and application. Although you're kind of on your own in his class, do your work and you'll be fine.

Personally, I don't like him as a professor. He knows his material but he needs to work on making sure his students understand. The reviews are nothing like the exams so I'm not sure why he even gives them.

He knows the material well, but has trouble getting it across to students. He assumes you already know the material from doing the online textbook readings. You need to go to lecture to get credit for clicker questions. His tests are okay, nothing too tricky, pretty straightforward.

He needs to work on not talking so fast and making information clear. He teaches as though you already know the material. The practice exams are nothing like the actual test.

VERY enthusiastic about his field. He expects you to have SOME general knowledge of the basics in chem. Sometimes he goes fast, but if you are a quick learner, especially auditory savvy, you are fine. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK AND REWRITE DEFINITIONS/PROBLEMS TO LEARN AFTER EVERY LECTURE. Wish I had done it from the start!

He is an okay teacher. he shows enthusiasm when he lectures, loves to do research ! But he talks way too fast during lectures. if you don't pay attention for a minutes you'll be lost. I don't go to his office hours. His homeworks are okay

I personally do not like him at all compare to other chemistry professors. Reads off slides and speaks fast, did not explain new materials at all. He makes the chapter on organic chemistry extremely difficult. I rather read textbooks than listen to his lectures.

Simmerling, like Lacey is a great professor if you read the textbook. He kinda reads his slides but his examples are clear and extremely helpful. Presenting the orgo chapter in 1 week is a bit much though.
