Super easy class, 2-3 assignments a week 2 of them are videos. Each assignment is a discussion based and he grades based on if you did the requirements which isnt a lot. If your looking for an A this is your class.

Even without and interest in Criminal Justice this class expanded my perspective of society. The lectures are in-depth and Hyde makes them entertaining. However, the book can and should be bought in older additions-said by Hyde. There are chances for extra credit and as long as you participate and pay attention this class is pretty relaxed!

Every Monday, we would have an assignment due for a seminar that we would talk about in small groups of about five, but that's kind of it for assignments. He takes attendance occasionally, but it's only worth two points. Even if you maintain an A all quarter, I recommend doing the extra credit because the final can absolutely tank you.

Mr. Hyde is a great professor. He has a lot of knowledge on the subject so his lectures are always very interesting. However, there isn't much in the gradebook so not doing well on the final could take your grade wayyy down. Overall would definitely recommend.

I love taking David! He is very knowledgeable about the the subject he is teaching and gives out great lectures! My only complaint is dont waste your money buying the book like I did as we didnt use it at all during the quarter. Other than that, amazing lectures and an super easy grader!

This was one of my first classes at SPSCC and it left a good impression. The lectures are amazing and you have a totally different outlook on society at the end of the quarter.

David Hyde is an amazing teacher! Even if you don't like lectures, his are very interesting and engaging. He says his final is difficult, but if you show up to lectures it's very easy. And he's funny and will pull tricks throughout the quarter. If you get the opportunity to take his class, do it. 100%.

I had the pleasure of having David for his class on globalization and can honestly say he is one of my favorite profs of all time. We disagreed on every issue we discussed, due to the fact he is a bit left of the USSR, but he never let that affect grading or anything like that. Instead he used it to stimulate the conversation. If you can, take him.

This class is awesome! I have already recommended it to several people. Lectures are not mandatory, but he takes random attendance once a week. There are only 100 points possible all quarter, including the final. Gives extra credit opportunities for up to 10 points. You'll learn a lot about social problems in America.

VERY LECTURE HEAVY! I felt like he just talked at me for the whole class period. I never touched my textbook because everything he had on his slides was in the book. It was nice not having any tests besides the final though.

You're assigned 1 hw a week on canvas, which is easy. The class is lecture-based and writing down notes from the powerpoint. He takes attendance once a week. class was fun.

If you don't like lecture this is not your class! You have lecture all week and a video on thursdays. You have a canvas assignment due every monday for 2-4 pts and are graded for turning in questions for the videos. We haven't had a essay or quiz yet (Week 6). He uses long examples so you get thru a slide or 3 per day. Good guy tho!

Hyde is a great professor if you enjoy lectures! He wrote the textbook(so we can get it for free), and all we do in class is lecture/the occasional movie! He takes attendence based on the movies(we write questions on them), and you do an assignment that is always due before class Monday! I am at week 7 and I have yet to write a large paper! :)

I took Social Problems as well as Criminology and I thoroughly enjoyed both classes. David is a very straightforward, get-straight-to-the-point professor, so class definitely got depressing sometimes. He does not sugarcoat anything, which I believe helps us learn concepts better. Overall, I would highly recommend taking his classes.

Hyde is a really cool guy and always has interesting stories to share. He is super smart and intellectual to the point where it's kind of intimidating. Some of the time when people raised their hands he would kind of shut down their ideas but for the most part he is really nice. Super easy homework. He takes attendance once a week.

One my favorite professors so far. Very lecture heavy but his lectures are always interesting, and he throws in some personal stories as well. Only assigns one assignment a week but it's quick and easy and the final is open book!

He's probably the best professor I've had. He really cares about his students and really prides in his lectures. In addition, his lectures are all available online just for anyone to use. The assignments he gave were easy, all you really need to do is attend his classes and you're all set. Plus his stories are great. His final was easy. Take it!
