So, I'm not going to lie. I had to do a TON of work to get even an A- in his class, and it was a very hard course. The material is very straightforward but memorization is awful and he's an incredibly hard grader. The writing assignments are fun and are a good way to bring your grade up, but the tests were hard.

I honestly don't remember this class being that bad. Maybe it was because I actually wrote well on exams and papers, compared to the other 7th grade level writers in the class. The papers were easy, and fun - writing fictional letters. Easy A for history ed. Missed class often, too. Liberal? Below obviously hasn't taken Conradt in POLS yet.

I would NOT recommend anyone to take Dr. Popke's classes unless you are a history or other social science major. He is VERY liberal. Tere isn't much homework, and he is passionate about the material, but he is a TOUGH grader. It is basically impossible to get an A on anything no matter how hard you work. Tests are a killer. You've been warned.

A very good teacher! Tests are intense, but manageable. He is also a very hard grader. You learn A LOT, which is great, however. The workload really isn't bad, either.

I entirely agree about Urban Geography. This class requires an insane amount of work. Four 5 to 6 page papers, all of which require literally hours of accumulating and analysing tons of data, and his grading on the papers is extremely tough. I'm in over my head as well, and just praying for a C.

Dr. Popke was extremely passionate about Geography so he tries to make the lectures interesting. The writing assingments weren't that hard, but his tests were pretty tough. Posts the notes online so its easy to catch up if you miss class. Would recommend him if you need this class for history education major.

So far this is my favorite class. Lectures are interesting and Dr. Popke is very nice and extremely helpful. A few short writing assignments. Tests are mostly based on notes so you need to be there for that. Study guides are available. Attendance isn't mandatory and final is not comprehensive. I would recommend taking his class.

Dr. Popke is a really nice guy. Grades really tough and is a little left leaning in his politics. Fun class activities and a really hot Teacher Assistant that we only saw once. If you study any you should get a B.

Very interesting class. The professor requires a lot of reading and fare amount of writing. Sometimes the class lacked a little depth and was a little biased.

I took him for urban geography and I am in over my head. 3 essay exams and 4-5 paper projects. This class is very interesting but way too many projects for a non-writing intensive class. If you need help, go talk to him in his office, he is very helpful. It's easy to make a C, impossible A.
