Tried hard to learn plant identification, still learned only a moderate amount. It's very difficult to see the minute differences between plants. He explains it well however, and if you give it your best effort you will probably pass. ATTEND CLASS, LECTURE & TEST HEAVY. INSPIRATIONAL, RESPECTED PROFESSOR. WILL TAKE OUT TIME TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND.

Jeff is a great teacher. I switched my major to science after taking his class. He's not only passionate about what he is teaching, he seems to really care if students understand the material, taking time to explain things very clearly. He went out of his way to make sure that his students understand. I always knew what was expected of me in class.

Jeff helped me decide my major without even knowing it. His enthusiasm for science is contagious. The field trips are great. Lectures are clear and he is always willing to answers questions and elaborate on subjects. One of the best teachers I have ever had

Jeff is AMAZING. Will do everything in his power to make sure you understand the material. His tests are difficult, but he prepares you fairly well and gives you a study guide. He's super smart, and has a ton of great stories to relate things to. You couldn't ask for a better Botany teacher.

What can I say? Jeff is an amazing professor with a finely-tuned knowledge og biology that is extremely evedent. I would take another class from Jeff anyday. Also, if you get the chance to do the nature walk with him at the refuge, stick by him, you'll learn a lot!

Awesome guy, makes class fun... I only fell asleep a few times and that was due to no sleep from my babies! He gives extra credit at the end of the semester and its usually some sort of manual labor like planting trees at the reserve or working in the gardens behind school. The extra credit alone was enough to push my grade up a Letter! GO JEFF!

Mr. Hogue is pretty fun guy. Really understanding. Loves his subject and makes the labs fun too. Totally recommend him to anyone. The material is still challenging, but not as dry as other teachers.

He's a fantastic teach, whith a real love for bio and teaching. He's extremely helpful and nice, even with students who are belligerently disrespectful to him and the class. He's really helpful and just a fun person to talk, even outside of class. I tell everyone who is taking bio1 to take him.

Jeff has great energy and legitimately loves biology and teaching; which is infectious. He's really, really helpful and not condescending at all, even when I don't get something that ends up being relatively simple. He's one of my favorite teachers of all time.

He is a good teacher. He writes everything you need to know on the board for you to copy down and that is exactly whats on the tests. Labs are mandatory, lecture is not, but if you don't go to lecture you wont have any notes and you wont understand the labs

He's hilarious. I'm pretty sure he was constantly over caffeinated...but that made class fun. He's definitely very passionate about what he teaches, and he's always ready and willing to help if you need it. Just take notes and attend the lab and there's no way you can fail.

Of my Three years in Jr. college, Jeff's botany class was arguably the best class I had. While his lectures were fast paced and loaded with info, it was probably the closest i've been to downloading info into my head.I can't say enough for this well prepared profesional teacher, who lets his love for botany shine through in this class.
