You can "get by" reading shmoop, but read the books for an A - they're easy. Tests are many, and specific but small. Creative projects are adorable. Professor is warm and explanatory, take notes on what he says because it seems like discussion but it's test material. He loves his subject and his students, it's a great class to take,

I took this class because he is loved on campus & I was a little disappointed. He went off topic constantly & class discussions would digress into awkward, uninformed racial/class/feminist/Donald trump disputes. His matching portion on the quizzes were extremely specific-u can't really get by with just the summary. I loved the creative assignments.

What other class serves up baked goods and amazing discussions? What an awesome professor, conscientious about issues amongst adolescence, eager to learn from his students, kind with grading, wants to see you succeed, a GPA booster, took us to the Baldwin library/ held first publications of classics like Little Women, creative assignments ! A++++

Prof. Cech is my favorite professor I've had so far. Sure, sometimes he goes off on a tangent, but he always finds himself back on topic. He really wants the students to be interested in what he's saying. The assignments are always fun - in, Adolescent Lit we reviewed a Hunger Games movie. Do yourself a favor, and take a class with Prof. Cech!

I really enjoyed this class and this instructor. John Cech is a very interesting teacher and has obvious knowledge of his subject. He is a children's author and encourages creative thinking and assignments. The class is really easy as long as you show up (half the time you get out early) and turn in the assignments (also easy). I recommend ENL2930.

Professor Cech is so accommodating and helpful! This teacher actually wants you to pass the class. He gives extra credit and the quizzes and mid-terms aren't that bad, you just need to read. But, come on, it's children's literature, not only should it be an easy read but a fun read. Class is interesting and he is so smart!

He gets off topic in class and skirts around answering your question. Did not find him helpful at all, and he changed the course syllabus THREE times throughout the semester. His tests are all T/F, even if he tells you they won't be. Not impressed.

Dr. Cech is a really nice man. He talks about seemingly unrelated things, but his goal is more to inform students about the world at large. If he gives you the choice between analytical or creative assignment, go with creative. He always grades so much easier on poems, pictures, songs, etc. than he does on essays. Speak up and have fun!

Fun class, and he's a really nice guy. The books are interesting and so is the discussion. He can get off-topic though. Exams are kind of subjective, asking you to ID a random one sentence quote from a book. Grading of written work can be inconsistent and very subjective as well. Overall I enjoyed the class, but I wish he was more consistent.

This class is easy if you do the reading. The projects are fun and creative and also easy. Just try and you will do fine in this class. He is biased towards some people though. He had his favorites and has a little rude to others. Overall I would suggest his class though; its fun.

Such an amazing class. He knows so much, definitely take one of his classes if you can. Variety of projects (essay, poems, comics, etc). Sometimes goes off topic-but in a good way (it's always interesting). Great class!

Comment:

Great professor. Very intelligent and insightful, funny, outspoken, and caring. There is a lot of reading, but it goes fast. Assignments are fun and manageable. Exams are also extremely reasonable. His classes truly are stress free and enjoyable. Cech is so warm hearted. Take him if you can! You learn so much!

His name is pronounced "Check" and he's absolutely amazing! He really tried to make this class fun and intimate, despite its size. He even brought in his wife and grandson once! He made really good decisions about the texts and class discussion was always great. It was the only 3-hour block I've ever taken that was bearable. Take him if you can!!

Adolescent Lit was a great class! I recommend Dr. Cech and this class to anyone that has an open mind. There's a lot of reading, but it's fairly easy (middle/high school level novels).

This is the only class over an hour that I would not get impatient in. I looked forward to it every week, and always left the class in a better mood that I came in with.
