John isn't as bad as everyone makes him up to be - though I can confirm he is a tough marker. All of your assignments are group projects - with the same group from start to finish - so make sure you have some reliable members. If you have creative ideas and good information to back up your statements, then you should do fine. Pretty fun class!

John was a terrible teacher. For RTA 102 it is all group work and you get stuck with your group from day 1 until the end of the semester. The work seems pointless and he will rip you apart in front of your classmates. Make sure to work in your groups or else marks will be taken off for participation, and start work early or you'll get a nasty email

Terrible experience. He's petty and unsympathetic. Has very specific expectations for assignments. Instructions and guidance are vague at best. Don't take his lab if you can.

John wasn't the best teacher for RTA 102 specifically. It's more the class content and assignments that were the problem. But he wasn't the easiest grader and was very specific about what he wanted in his assignments. There are a lot of random projects that don't really make sense. Dry presentations and tough grading are what to expect.

He doesn't give above 85%, it just doesn't happen. If J.J. Abrams turned in an assignment, and put his heart and soul and every waking minute into perfecting the assignment, John would still give him a 78%. He is super smart and knowledgable about the industry, and cares for the class. Good dude, don't expect a good grade.

Although he is very knowledgable on the subject matter, he doesn't seem very interested in teaching. Not engaging whatsoever, so if you lose interest in the PowerPoint you will lose interest in him. He is understanding which is a good plus however doesn't provide a clear grading criteria for most assignments. It's a long three hours.

Nice guy and knows a lot about the industry. That being said, teaching isn't necessarily his forte. I found him to be a bit condescending and a tough marker who gave minimal feedback. He basically just reads the PowerPoints every class. Appreciated my time (and mediocre marks) with him.

His Media Writing lectures are very interesting and enlightening. He knows how storytelling works and explains it in very simple terms, giving good examples. I learned A LOT from that class. However, when it comes to marking, you will be lucky, if you get above 80%. His feedback is somewhat messy, with tons of typos. If you are looking to boost you

Long lab lectures that repeats everything prof already said in actual lecture. Very boring because he reads off the slides. Paid no attention to any group cooperation problems. A tough marker but also very slow marker. Still waiting on marks for half the assignments when course is over already. Nice-ish person but over all, uninspiring.

He seems like a nice guy but honestly some people just aren't cut out for teaching. He seems rather self-righteous and he marks really hard for very little explanation. He's also very vague about his expectations and doesn't pay much attention to you if you're shy/quiet.

While he may have a lot of experience in the industry, I did not find that he was at all suitable for a teaching position. I had met with him on multiple accounts to get one on one help, and he was unable to tell me what to improve upon, even though I had barely been passing his assignments.

Everyone in my class seemed to love him, but I did not. He didn't care to learn my name because I wasn't the loudest student. He thinks he's the king of the world. Defensive when questions are asked. Doesn't justify his hard marking. Overall, really disliked him & am glad the class is over.

Had him for media writing: radio...he was quite awful. He marked ridiculously hard, and I honestly can't stand his taste in storytelling. He emphasizes using simplistic, cliched ideas that fit a nice format rather than interesting content. Hated this class and lectures went on forever.

hard prof and doesn't care about the students at all. has the air of confidence that thinks he is better than anybody else in the class. very closed minded. marks are always very low... in fact close to failing. doesn't give you help when you need it. jokes are lame and is always insulting/defensive when questions are asked.

I don't think I have ever learned so little in that much time. The man clearly only wants to talk about himself and has no desire to help me learn anything. I no longer feel inclined to write anything. Very discouraging.
