He really tries to care about his students, but can be condescending at times. Plays MASSIVE favorites. Turned students' political views against each other for the sake of discussion, but the class tends to be balanced.

He's super engaged in what he's teaching and it makes the class ten times more interesting. You don't have to study much because he's so engaged in the way hes teaching and so excited about it that it makes the information stick the first time around. A very caring and funny person.

Dr. Hermann is amazing. He really caress about the students, and he's such a nice guy. Very accessible anytime, with office hours, or communication outside of class. His dedication is inspiring.

Comment:

Hermann is incredibly passionate about what he does. He lays out what he wants/expects on the tests VERY clearly and will repeat what he wants. Mostly lecture based, but he is engaging and funny (you won't get bored). He will try and get you to talk and share your opinion.

Best teacher at trinity. Hands down. You do need to work, but he will work as hard as he can to help you. Makes you think about your argument before you speak, and helped me loads with my work ethic!

Easily one of the best professors at Trinity. Gives awesome lectures and doesn't throw anything unexpected at you on test. He is great at playing devils advocate and will make you defend your views and what you say. You can tell he cares about his students and wants them to learn and enjoy the class. I would definitely take him again!

Great teacher, Crystal clear lecturer!! Tests are kind of hard though, expect 2 essays with the rest being short answer. If you don't read you won't do well on the tests though and 3-4 come only from the book. Great Professor though really funny and the first to make fun of himself, always available to help. Definitely taking him again

I've take a few classes with Dr. Hermann and he's one of the most upfront and random professors you can get. There's a night and day difference between the level of difficulty in his lower and upper division classes. He tends to repeat phrases a lot and say some inappropriate things, but if you're looking to enjoy a PLSI course, he's what you want.

Dr. Hermann is a wonderful teacher and unlike a lot of professors in the Poli Sci department, it is possible to get and A in his class. There are absolutely no surprises on his tests and he is very helpful during office hours. Don't miss class and come prepared and you will do well. The amount of effort you put in will reflect your final grade.

One of the best profs at Trinity, hands down. Fun lecturer and very accessible teacher. Can answer just about ANY politically related question you throw at him. Loves to play devil's advocate and enjoys putting people on the spot, but if you're okay with that, I'd highly recommend the course.

I loved the way he organized his discussions into easy-to-remember outlines for essay questions. I always knew exactly what he might use on the tests. He was very straightforward. His lectures were appropriately simple for an intro level course. I appreciated his humor. Read the book if you can - it helps.

Civil Rights and Liberties was one of the most interesting classes I've taken at Trinity. He's really funny in class but still teaches the material. He plays favorites that usually include students he's had before, but having a unique opinion in that class gets you far. Try not to miss class even though he gives you three absences!

He isn't easy, but if you go to class, participate, and take notes you will do fine. His tests are directly from his notes except for at most two questions. He assigns readings but I never did them and got an A. Hes interesting and if he thinks you're not lazy, he'll cut you slack.

The two most difficult courses I've ever had. Take anything he teaches. You MUST be prepared for each and every class or he will make a public fool out of you. Granted he does have favorites, but it's easy to be among them: come to class, offer your opinion and know your stuff. Planning on law school? You better take Hermann.

Comment:

Interesting class with a great teacher. He gives a new dimesnsion to American Politics. You discuss and debate the issues and policy in class. Lots of notes, like 20-30 pages for each test, but if you memorize the big parts, you will be okay. Big on court cases. Try to read but if you can't, learn the definitions in the margins. Funny guy.
