Don't use your phone in class. Don't sleep in class. The lectures are interesting and I enjoyed them, but to be honest, he mostly teaches directly out of the book. That being said, he gives extra insight where the book is not the best. The tests are open book, so you better know how to program well.

The teacher is decent, but in order to fully understand the topics, you must read the book. There are only two tests in the class that you will take in the entire term. The labs are not bad as well and its the area where most of your points will come from for your grade.

I don't know why people make him out to be arrogant here. If anything, he's just abrasive...nothing wrong with that since he teaches the subject pretty clearly, and is helpful. Tech warnings and Santa Claus warnings are justified. However, I have never gotten the "arrogant" vibe from him that people talk about here. Not a bad guy.

Sloan does not give back tests/quizzes at all during the semester. He will call you out in a rude way if you have your phone out or talk during class. Overall, I would stay away from Santa if I could.

He is a straight forward guy. enter the class with your proverbial glass empty and you will learn a lot. he will call you on laptops and tardiness. BE ON TIME

Difficult but not impossible. There were some things in the book that I could not wrap my head around and his lecture clarified them perfectly. Attend lectures, read the book, do exercises from the book (the exam questions all are pulled from the exercises). Do every lab and report. I did all these things and I made an A.

Professor Sloan is a brilliant man who is very proficient with the course he is teaching. However, he is not a pleasant person and it has turned me away from the Computer Science department. I hope the Computer Science Department will consider some kind of training for him to help him better work with students.

Sloan may be a good programmer, but he is a bad teacher. He's a jerk in class to anyone who asks questions, and he never returns tests or tells you how he grades. Generally a horrible teacher, but if you really like programming it shouldn't phase you.

Sloan is very arrogant and his lectures do not pertain to what is done in the lab. Pointless teacher for a pointless class, steer clear of Santa Claus!

Mr Sloan. That guy is very arrogant. My first two weeks were really challenging. i was bored, not happy. 60% of students dropped the class but at the end, i will say he is not that bad. I like him now and will take him again for 303 :) . He is very funny.

The class was really easy. I actually enjoyed it. I always found lecture interesting, but I do think the class was a bit too laid back. There were so many things we didn't do in class and he would say read it on your own. Most people barely have time and the book is not exactly leisurely reading. So I wish he would have covered more stuff.

Easiest class that I have ever taken. Sloan is the biggest idiot/jerk I have ever taken for a class, though. Just don't go to lecture and go to lab.

Had Sloan for 302 and 303, he is arrogant sawed off jerk. Does a good job of teaching the material but the tests are much more difficult than the lectures. Did well in his classes and learned a lot but I will try my best to avoid him in the future. His personality gets in the way of his teaching .He is very condescending and patronizes his students

The class only meets once a week but I still dread going to it. He thinks he's teaching the most interesting subject ever. He won't allow you to have laptops out in class and will yell at you to put it up even if class hasn't started. he calls people out on the most silly things and in the most rude way.

Easy class, TERRIBLE professor. I went to lecture for the first two weeks and wanted to gauge my eyes out with a spoon. Sloan is super boring, extremely rude, and threatening without the need to be. Luckily lab is what counts and I only did half of them to earn a C.

This class was super boring. Class attendance was not mandatory, so I showed up once (first day). You have to show up for lab though, it counts. Super easy class.

Class is easy and very, very boring. I'm not sure if it's even mandatory. Go to lab. Your grades come from there. He's somewhat ill-tempered; he demands respect. If you don't show him respect, he will call you out, yell at you, etc. He also thinks he's funny, but his "jokes" come out cheesy.

Comment:
This class is one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. That being said, it's also the easiest class I've ever taken. Don't worry about his quizzes that he says he's going to give b/c he hardly ever does. Class attendance in lab and lecture isn't mandatory and most people will be done after 3 months while still retaining an A.
