Comment:

He expects way too much on tests considering what we do in class. We listen to him ramble on for 50 minutes and then we have to regurgitate exactly what he said or else you won't get a good grade. Isn't poetry supposed to be subjective and mean something different to everyone? Not according to him. Don't take this class unless you hate yourself.

Comment:

Ruined poetry for me but an easy A you just have to go to class. Can't miss more than 5 classes no matter what reason (funerals, religion, illness, anything). He would say inappropriate things, didn't care what you thought, condescending, and expected you to regurgitate what he said in essay form. Waste of time but if you need the class, easy A.

I wish this were a more active/involved English class. I was disappointed that it was all lecture and little to no discussion. It was too much memorization and reiteration , not enough of determining the meaning and explaining it yourself. This has been one of my least favorite classes which is sad because I love poetry. :(

Kevin is my favorite professor here at IC. He absolutely loves what he does, and that reflects in every class that he teaches. I learned a lot in his class because he made sure that the entire class was understanding the subject that we were learning at the time. I hated poetry before taking his class, and I am so thankful that I did.

I loved professor murphy. He was always energetic and truly loved what he is doing. I would highly recommend anybody that loves poetry to to take his class. He is a harsh grader though.

Kevin Murphy is one of the most enthusiastic people I have ever met. I didn't know much about poetry going into the class and he made me love it and want to read more. Such a fun class and I highly recommend him.

I've taken several classes with Murphy, and I still love him. He has a reputation as a tough grader, but I don't think he's any more difficult than the other English professors. He is very funny and is extremely passionate and knowledgeable in his subject area.

He basically talks the entire class, but he's energetic and interesting. Homework is always reading poems. The only grades you really get are for 2 papers, the midterm, and the final. I would definitely take a class with him again.

Only 2 papers all semester, and a midterm and final. As long as you go to class and pay attention the papers will be easy. He does tend to think that his interpretation is the right/only one. Very energetic and friendly. Definitely take advantage of his office hours especially when writing the papers. He basically tells you what to write.

Kevin Murphy is by far the greatest professor at Ithaca College!!!! I always had a love for poetry, but he truly allowed my passion to blossom. He is so animated and fun! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!

Intro to Poetry. Awesome prof. very animated and keeps you interested. VERY smart, will make you look at poetry in a completely different way. Only graded on two exams and two essays, so have to do well on those to get a good grade. But he gives you every opportunity to do that. Take a class with him.

Murphy is a genuinely interesting cat. I didn't pay too much attention to poems prior to the class, but now I actually find them enjoyable to read. I would highly recommend this class to anyone with even a passing interest in poetry- Murphy makes it worth it with his insights and enjoyable class discussions. Favorite prof so far.

It's like talking with your grandpa who LOVES poetry (and knows what he's talking about too). He has a great sense of humor and clearly loves what he does. I get my ass up at 9 to go to that class and have yet to miss it.

Murphy is awesome! He really adds animation to poetry. He makes it fun to read almost anything and the man is full of knowledge. I loved his class, really engaging and opens you up to different dimensions in poetry.
