Comment:

I can never get in contact with him unless in person. He is the wordiest person you will ever meet in person and in announcements. Half of his assignments don't make sense. He expects you to already know everything. He doesn't teach. I have learned almost nothing from this class. Worst professor ever! You can't avoid him even if you wanted.

He said we would NEED to buy an iPad in the syllabus, then didn't even assign any projects involving iPads. He had a whole second unit set up in the Canvas modules that was never assigned. He was extremely unclear about grading criteria and expectations. Unresponsive to emails/messages. Textbooks are barely needed.

If you want a semester long spring break... Has 4 assignments. No specific instructions, no clear feedback on how to fix assignments. No page length and disregards it when it does have. Grades drafts as if they are the final product. Had three face to face videos where he talked more and said absolutely nothing. Finals week and grades aren't in.

He would tell us he'd post something on a specific date, and then disappear for weeks on end. We'd email him to ask if everything was OK and he wouldn't respond to anyone. His expectations for each assignment were unclear until he offered feedback, then you'd know what he was looking for.

Comment:

By far the worst online class I have ever taken. Doesn't respond to emails, slack messages, or twitter messages. Seems like a nice guy but this class have given me an ulcer because there is no organization and direction and on top of that he doesn't grade anything till the last week and he grades tough. Wouldn't recommend.

Comment:

Harper is one of the best teachers I've had in all my education. His style of teaching forces you to think on your own molding your mind to become the professional you're going to school for. This might be intimidating to some people because they would rather be told what to do and how to do it and not have to be creative about it.

Comment:

Harper is a very knowledgeable and fun instructor. Classes do are more lecture based. Assignment expectations are unclear and left open a lot of the time (which can be a good or bad thing depending on the class and how you learn) DGM 3240: was great for a lecture course! In my experience, he truly cares about the students and wants them to succeed.

He didn't set due dates for half of the assignments so I didn't know if I even needed to do them or not. He graded my assignments based not on the assignment criteria, but what his personal opinions were. Literally the worst and least organized professor I've ever had. He offered no feedback on how to improve my work other than that it wasn't good.

Mike is a great professor. This class was about how to design web pages and the process of doing that. He expects a lot of you, but is more than happy to help if you ask or come to his office. If you pay attention in class to his lectures, you'll know and see what he expects.

He doesn't respond to emails ever. It was an OK class but there is a lot of work expected towards the end of it. Plan on spending about 80-100 hours on the final project (not kidding). He grades pretty hard.

He is a great teacher, think of what you honestly expected from a REAL university professor vs a community college teacher. He expects a lot of work outside of class, but he is VERY reasonable about it, and flexible in getting it in, but NOT a push over. You better KNOW inDesign if you are in his class... You do a lot of work, but you WILL learn!

Comment:

Gives clear examples, even provides templates for major projects. If you want to learn how to design well and communicate your ideas effectively, Harper will help you. Not easy, but very do-able and useful. Highly recommend!

Comment:

Mike is a great guy. However, I wish he would have taught us about HTML/CSS, and how to use web design tools like Photoshop and Dreamweaver. This class isn't what I expected of a Web Design course. If you enjoy listening to lectures about design theory and discussions about web design, then this class is for you.

What a fun guy this was to have. How exciting to go to a class and watch a movie trailer on a projector to start off class, then critique different aspects of the design of the page. Fascinating to discuss technology with this professor. This is one of those wonderful teachers who are in this to be a mentor, a great value to the college.

Harper is a history major and self taught Mac media enthusiast. He attempts to create a classroom that mirrors the industry, without providing clear direction of competency. It is unknown how he measures progress and assigns grades. Harper likes to be everybody's buddy. Not recommended for upperdivision.
