Very difficult material, but Professor Stanhope gets it across well. He has a lot of personal experience with death and the grieving process and he makes it comfortable to share your stories with the class.

Very sweet man but lectures are hard to sit through and not fall asleep. I only went to 2 lectures and read the chapter summaries, took the tests and got a B. Good man but not a great person to teach the subject in depth, he just tells a lot of stories. Lectures are haphazard and not focused either. Hes very respectful and helpful, not organized.

Class success depends on how well and how fast you write everything down he says in lecture and how much you retain every chapter you read and highlight. To get an A, you need to read the book. Do psych. studies for 3 extra credit points added to final grade. No class discussions. Teacher is an old man with hearing problems but he's very nice, too.

I took him for counseling psych. though he is not everyones cup of tea, he is very nice. BEWARE you do have to read on your own in addition to lecture notes. incorparates life experience as the naval pastor back in the day. i like him but again you do have to read on your own for best results. 30% each for first two test 40% cumilative final

He is soooo boring, really nice but it's hard to stay awake in his class. test are really hard. 3 exams total with 3 hours research credit. It's so hard to write anything down in his class so read the book inside out to do well on the exams. good luck.

Dr. Stanhope is a very nice man, but he is not a very good teacher in this subject. I had him for Death and Dying, and it was a great class. In Counseling Psych, he does not teach. You rely on the book, and cross your fingers. He skims each chapter, but expects you to know way too many chapters at a time on the exam without explaing concepts.

Very different. A great professor, really respectful. He taught me alot and not just about counseling but life in general. His test were a bit hard, but if you pay attention in class and write down what he says and read the book you'll do good. He's the only prof I would take on a Saturday and actually love going to his class.

Lectures are really boring. He's very sweet, but he tends to tell the same stories over and over again. Don't buy the book, he doesn't use it. Tests are really easy, I got a B without ever studying or basically putting in any real effort. There are no HW assignments, grade is completely based on test grades.

Overall the class was ok. Prof. Stanhope knows a lot about death but he repeats his stories a lot. No book, so everything is based on lectures in class. One assignment, a 12 page paper for undergrads on anything about death.

I agree with some other ratings: professor is nice, sweet, wise, experienced. However, I found his lectures disorganized, a little unclear, and he tends to contradict himself. But the book is informative and I learned a lot about diff. types of counseling... what you get out of the professor is life experience. Take notes for tests. Good class.

A kind, gentle professor who has had a really hard life. Teaches from experience in a comfortable and safe environment. I have learned so much and will miss him terribly next semester. He reminds me of Morrie Schwartz from Tuesday's with Morrie. Everyone should get to meet this man but only if you are respectful and hardworking.

Fun class, makes it interesting. He tells his stories about his time in the Navy. Tests are multiple choice/TF, sort of hard but take notes and you'll be fine. Don't focus as much on the reading, and make sure to go to class.

Elderly man, but very kind and patient, and knows his stuff. Taught Death, Dying and Grieving very compassionatley, and grades consisted of a lengthy paper and a few quizzes on other students' oral presentations. Good class!
