Patty is a wonderful person. I don't understand the bad reviews posted on here! She absolutely works with you as an individual. I felt the most connected with her out of all of the fiction writing professors. She even read material I was working on outside of her class and gave me lovely feedback. For her it's all about precision.

Same class last semester as the person below. Patty was extremely helpful, always understanding, gave plenty of feedback, and pushed hard for improvements no matter the skill level starting off. She was upbeat, hence the smile. Great author, great professor, great class. Just make sure to do the work.

By far, my worst teacher this semester. Her evil smile will eat your soul. She is not understanding and can careless about your personal life outside the classroom. Never works with you through problematic situations. I will never take her class again and cannot believe she got teacher of the year. BIZARRE

By far the creepiest person I've ever known. Her "smile," which she is always wearing, makes me want to die. The class isn't too bad if you're used to Columbia's fiction department, but this woman is really quite intolerable.

Her one on one meetings were fantastic. She doesn't cling onto the third rail of the Story Workshop (c) like other full-time faculty. She listens to the individual style of the student and gives specific feedback. I miss her actually.
