He's a great guy personally, but his teaching's not for everyone. He likes to have class discussions and grades mostly through papers. Otherwise he's a pretty solid teacher if you have the patience.

Many students take Elovitz for granted. He is caring and super easy. This class is discussion based. You have a few essays but he tells you exactly what to write. He gives extra credit at any given chance. This man is extremely knowledgeable. The only actual assignments you have to do is two group projects and a group debate. I recommend, easy A!

Professor Elovitz was the sweetest teacher ever! His final and midterm were easy and the projects as well. He is a tough grader when it comes to essays but lets you rewrite. He tells you exactly how to get a good grade In his class. I recommend if your looking for an easy going man, even tho lectures are SUPER boring and talks ALOT about nothing.

I had him for my FYS freshman year and he was, and still is, the worst prof Ive ever had. I corrected him once on a topic he got wrong and hated me since. He graded me harder than everyone else. I got a 70 on one of my papers, but when I told him I worked on it with another classmate who got an A he changed me grade to hers. DO NOT TAKE

He is the worst professor I have ever had at Ramapo. Do not take him. He is rude, judgmental, and just a mean professor. Definitely shows favoritism and if he doesn't like you he will call you out in front of the whole class. Worst ever never take him steer clear!!!!!

Rambles a lot but no one gives him enough credit. Such a nice guy. Grandpa complex. Everyone is dramatic when they say he's bad, they just don't have any patience with this knowledgeable man.

I have him for my first year seminar. It was supposed to be an easy class and leave it to me to take the hardest class in the school. He says the course is "light" on reading yet makes you read over 10 pages per class. All works are written by him and he expects you to know every detail in the reading. Would never take AGAIN

I love the guy's personality. He's nice and sensitive but he simply isn't a great professor, he's a horrible one for that matter. Work would have been interesting, but he never teaches about what he assigned us for HW. He goes off randomly and then makes a weird joke. His tests are eh, and his papers are impossible. He's also old-world, stay away.

On average there will be at least one paper due a week averaging at least two pages. The majority of the class consists of lectures. It's graded on points earned rather than points deducted so the opportunity to do well is there if you're willing to do all the extra credits. Most people got C's because they chose not to.

This professor is terrible. I usually do not say this but it is the worst experience of college so far. He is in his late 80s and has been at the school since it opened. He is the hardest paper grader I've ever had and I am a reasonably good writer who usually receives A's and B's on papers. I have never received a grader higher then a C- .

He was sick, and the class was not cancelled. He assigns a TON of reading, most of which is his too. His assignments make absolutely no sense, and he assigns them frequently. If you have him for First Year Seminar, be prepared for A LOT of work, and tangents that trail off into nothing.

He doesn't ask for much. Do your homework, which might take a long time. Lectures are painful, kids hate participating and he has to practically squeeze answers from students. I don't know what it is, most kids hated his class. This helped me a lot, because I only had to express vague interest and he LOVED me. He is not merciful, no second chances.

Lectures almost the entire class period and expects the students to participate in the lectures. Also assigns homework every class period and goes over the homework in class. Group debate at the end of which civilization did the most in achievements.

Paul Elovitz is a very nice guy, however, he is a horrible professor. I had him for First Year Seminar, and boy, it was not what I expected. The nightly readings are long and boring; and there are discussions on every one. YOU MUST READ THEM TO PASS THIS CLASS.

Had him for my first year seminar. I ended up getting an A- because I talked to him while most people didn't so he liked me. Although I did well I suggest one does not take him; he is really old and loses focus easily and doesn't really give you an exact day something is due. Also very confusing and doesn't make sense at times.

The most unclear professor I have ever seen in my life. Lectures for ever about himself. If he assigns a paper, there is no specific guidelines. It is more like "write a primary source paper due next week." When you ask him to explain further, you get another lecture that you wind up zoning out for. You have to read SO MUCH! DON'T TAKE!!

Comment:
Elovitz is a really good professor. The only thing i can complain about is how long the readings are. There's a discussion on the readings every class so you need to be prepared to participate and answer questions. On the midterm and final just state most of the facts instead of your own opinion. Lectures are really boring for an 8am but hes fine.
