Had him Fall 2012: Class was almost 100% lecture and note taking, but pretty interesting. Wove in concepts with his own anecdotes about his experiences, and that was my fav part of the class. 3 essay tests graded on a curve. Only homework was Moodle forum. Book wasn't used at all. Very interesting, but if you hate lectures, don't take his class.

Dr. Burns is the BEST professor that many students will never have. Must take him and his class serious to receive a good grade. This class actually requires one to think which is why I enjoyed it so much. Dr. Burns is on his way out though so if you have a chance this summer you better take it.

burns has a HARD subject to teach. so keep that in mind when you take his class. he's a little eccentric but that's how he keeps stats interesting.

Nice guy but his class is very difficult. It is pretty much a lecture class. Very hard not to fall asleep. I showed up every day and always took notes, but could never could get a B on a test. No homework, grade is based off 3 tests. If you take his class I hope you live to listen.

Excellent professor with an interesting and different way of teaching. We never used the textbook, but I learned a lot in this class. It is mandatory to attend class and take notes, but if you do this, the course is very easy. Rarely had homework and barely studied for tests and got an A. One of the easiest & most interesting classes I have taken.

You have to attend class and take notes. He is enthusiastic about the material he teaches conceptually with no textbook. I review his notes before the test and write out answers to the questions we covered in class and received an A. A lot of professors in the Psy department are clinical, while he is more behavioral. one of my favorite teachers

He is a good teacher. I didn't study any more in depth than looking over the material a few minutes before the test, and I made a B. However, you must attend class and take notes in order to be successful. I give him a thumbs up.

Great teacher and a good guy. However if you're not serious about being a student don't bother you will just fail. This guy actually teaches the material and doesn't just give powerpoints to memorize for bs multiple choice tests. Anyone hoping to do grad school should definitely take him any chance you get.

Burns is a really good teacher. Yes, this is a difficult class, so you have to work hard, but it is not at all "impossible." Also, he does try to have a sense of humor about things, so don't be sensitive about it and you'll be fine. He wants you to do well.

his teaching style is him standing in front of the class and talking for the full hour and 15 minutes. i couldnt follow anything he said and i always feel asleep in class. he doesnt use the book at all unless he wants you to read and discuss it online and the chapters are over 30 pages long

This guy sucks! You will not get an A. He makes his grading scale up and it's useless. His information is all from his head and leads me to believe he is making it up. If I was to go on to a higher py class I would have no basis to go off of. DONT TAKE THIS GUY.

He talks about nothing in the book, the only he talks about are his stupid stories and that damn monkey, Bert. He clearly used to be a hippie or something. I would try to avoid this man for any class.

Do not take Burns. You will not make an A in this class. He grades on a scale he makes up, based on who you stack up compared to everyone else in your class. He said "A 100 on an exam means you taught me something, and that has only happened once in my 35 years of teaching". He grades on incredibly hard scales.

What a hateful guy. I've never had a teacher make me feel more stupid than this one. His way of teaching is ridiculously confusing. I should've listend to all the people who told me not to take him. They were right.

He has made up his own version of statistics. I looked up something from the book for help and when he read my answer he wrote "you must have gotten this from the book, this isn't the way I taught it" and marked it wrong. If you take him, don't learn the right way of doing statistics, learn his way.

Burns is a horrible teacher. He makes up his own grading scales, only gives essay tests, and never uses the book. He doesn't give homework so the only way to pass is to get good test grades. This will be the only class that I will get a C in this semester. If you are reading this drop whatever class you have with him and get it with someone else.

I took Burns for PY271 too. The classes are difficult and the text is worthless. I made As, but beware taking his class if you're a bad writer- the tests are all essay Qs. However, he grades on generous curves, gives the test Qs weeks in advance, and will help you with the essay Qs before the exam. He also lets you take exams late for any reason.

You either love Dr. Burns or hate him. I loved his class and did very well. You have to attend every class, pay attention and take notes. There are 3 tests the whole semester, but they're all essay and he expects you to write a book. If you can write well and make a clear argument for you're point, you're set. If not, you might as well drop.

I've taken Dr. Burns for three classes. PY101, PY271, and PY364. He is an AMAZING teacher. I absolutely love him! His test are essay, but I've made A's on all of them and all I did was take notes and attended class daily. He's definately willing to help you if you ask. He really likes class discussion. He is an all around great teacher!!!!
