Comment:

Knows the topics absolutely completely. Never once was he asked a question in class that he could not answer, even if the questions were significantly beyond the actual course content. But the class is fast-paced and while class attendance is not mandatory technically, practically it is as you will miss a lot of information if you miss one day.

Very nice and charismatic. He tells the best stories too. His tests are killers though. The questions in operating systems were tough, but he knows his stuff.

Excellent professor. Not easy, but he knows his stuff and he is very willing to teach you what he knows. Extremely smart person, I couldn't ask a question he didn't know an answer to. He may talk like a country boy, but his appearance is deceiving.

Comment:

He's a good teacher and the material was fairly easy, but this class is not an easy A. The programming assignments were kind of fun, but those tests were tricky. Make sure you know the stuff very well. Just paying attention in class will earn you a C on a test. Studying a decent amount- B. Studying well and really understanding will get you an A.

Very knowledgeable about what he's teaching. You can just tell he's been in the field a long time. Just be sure to take good notes because his tests are highly dependent on that. Other than that, just lay back and have a good time listening to his stories about Call of Duty 4. :)

Dr. Hyatt is extremely laid back and personable but highly opinionated so careful what you say. The truth is he scarily intelligent so don't let his accent fool you. His lectures are very focused upon real world information and experience with a large mix of Hattiesburg, COD4, XBOX and his chess program thrown in. Not the typical pompous jerk.

Great, friendly teacher. Brings interesting work experience to class discussion, and isn't afraid to talk about his Xbox 360 gaming experiences to help illustrate a point. His tests are challenging, but he never asks trivial questions. Can't recommend enough.

Great Teacher. His test are tough but you really learn a lot from him. I don't understand why people have problems with his accent, the school is in Alabama so you should be used to hearing southern accents. Reguardless of what people say about his accent you can tell he is the smartest professer there. He teaches you real world experience.

Lots of great anecdotes and real world experience. Set in his ways, has very strong opinions. Tells off-color jokes fairly frequently. Illustrates concepts crystal clear. Tests are hard, often due to unnecessarily tricky wording. Previous comment about his supposed southern drawl is puzzling; I understand him perfectly and I am a yankee.

Dr. Hyatt is the best teacher in the computer science department. His understanding of the topics that he covers in class, comes from actual personal/professional use and experience. As long as you pay close attention and take good notes, an A is very possible.
