When the pandemic hit and we transitioned to an online format he took almost an entire month to reach out to us. At which point he assigned three separate 5 - 10 page papers at once. A week later he assigned a 25 page research project out of seemingly nowhere giving us 2 weeks to complete that and the aforementioned essays. Highly unprofessional.

He's an okay prof but likes to talk about his ex-wives, son's mistakes, and online dating life. Does not teach by the textbook so you NEED to attend class. The material is challenging and he never explained things clearly. Doesn't really care about your grades, only had 4 things for the whole class. Exams are HARD, especially with Statistics.

He is an awful teacher. Social problems? He uses the class to explain his life story. He tells us why his marriage ended and that is not our business. We got our midterms back two weeks before the final. He accuses two people of plagiarism in front of everyone. He is very unprofessional and should not be a teacher. NSFW

We can't get through a 20-minute video in 40 minutes because he talks so much. He talked about his divorce & personal problems. He just goes on tangents, it's not organized at all. Sure, there's no HW and only 2 online exams, but god you could at least try to teach. I'd rather my professor do his job than I teach myself from the links he posts.

This class I'll admit I skipped a lot. There's only two exams for your grade that are very easy and online. He likes to have the class watch movies that he'll comment on with important info that goes with the exams. No book, no homework, and attendance doesn't matter

2 tests and a huge homework packet due at the end of the semester. Take my advice, do not wait until the last few days, it won't work. Tests are short but fairly difficult. He has a horrible personality but he teaches well. You need to be there for notes. He's eh.

He is alright, I would only take him again if I had to. We are only graded on two exams and that is it. You must take notes.

I really appreciated Roger as he understands we're human beings, things happens and doesn't make things even more harder unlike some professors. You do not need to attend every class but be sure to get a study partner or a few for notes, watch the films on your own time if you missed & you're fine. No textbook use, everything is given directly.

I loved this professor, with this semester having trouble with other classes this was my easiest class! He's very funny, curses a lot but we're all adults, get side tracked a lot with telling stories but I honestly learned a lot this semester about credit and debt as a college student. No textbook use, only two exams, and a lot of film watching!

More than once reference EMU students as being an "alternator away from failure" Prof that swears a lot. No one really cares anyone. Not cool or uncool, just a style. Atypical guy walked in late 1st day and sat in front row. Prof paused lecture to sarcastically remark how rude that was. My opinion-prof was more rude to huge lect. hall by pausing.

The class was just a midterm in final, but they were online and he gives you the questions and you can prepare your answers for the test. A lot of movies watched, only a few lectures where he actually talked. The tests are pretty easy and are not graded tough. Easy class but hard to pay attention to endless movies.

Had him for Social Problems and noticed that the content he had selected for us to cover differed dramatically from what you would think we'd cover. He loves focusing purely on poverty, economic and business issues rather than what the description of the course indicated we'd focus on. He also loves talking about his dating life and rambling.

Kernsmith is a really easy professor to take. His classes aren't hard as long as you show up and listen to the lecture. Sometimes he does get off topic but overall his class is worth taking.

Very good professor, one of the best in the departments. I've had him for a 1-week long course and again for a full semester. Very helpful, smart, and wants us to succeed.

One of the greatest professors at EMU. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. Tests are online and you have 2 weeks to prepare the answers to the questions. You would have to honestly try to do bad in this class.

Kernsmith isn't the worst, but he darn sure isn't the best. His professionalism after classes end seem to not exist. I personally wouldn't take him again, but to each hisher own.

I really wasn't expecting to learn much in this class when I started, but now I'm really glad I took it. I liked his teaching style, everything that you learned built on one another and you never did anything that was not useful. You watch quite a few movies in class but they are all for a certain purpose and are interesting. 2 online tests.

I loved Roger's class, and I feel like not only did he care about us as students, but as people as well. This class, although shortened due to the alternative spring break, provided me with a lot of knowledge I did not have before, and gave me perspectives I'd never before considered, and doing it in a FUN way. Long story short, he made this class.

Took this class at Shanty Creek. He is very knowledgable and it was a fun class to take. It was just a lot of information to take in in one week. He shows movies and does other in class things to help you understand. He wants you to pass but wants you to think and understand.
