Comment:

A lot of work outside of class, which was to be expected. Events, etc. However, when events are added last minute or occur on religious holidays, a degree of understanding would be expected, and is not received. She gives vague assignment criteria, and grades harshly. Can be flippant and harsh toward students and make questionable comments.

Comment:

Prof Tomasch is a really great and intelligent professor. She is very accessible and lets you rewrite papers for full credit. You will learn a lot if you take her class. However, she is a tough grader and gives a lot of homework. She also can be nit picky at times and gives off anxious energy.

Will literally argue with your answer to opinion questions if your opinion doens't agree with hers. Basically wants zombies to take over and the world to end, but at least she'll be gone. Will make you do 2 outlines and still give you a terrible grade. DON'T TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO BE CREATIVE SHE TREATS ENGLISH AS IF ITS A CALCULUS 2 COURSE

Love this professor. The others have it right - she IS a tough grader, and a little vague on the essay assignments , but that allows you to be creative and do what interests you. If you need help, she's more than happy to help you. Very intelligent and made her class as fun as she could. Take her if you want a challenge and actually want to learn.

At first she may seem tough, but she is very helpful and the reading as very interesting. She lets you rewrite papers and lets the class create a final exam. If you keep up with the reading, you will be fine.

Professor Tomasch is incredibly intelligent and engaging but tough. If you want to push yourself and become a better student through hard work, take her class! If you want an easy class with minimal work, skip her. She is challenging but is one of the most inspirational Professors I've ever had. Would definitely take again.

Professor Tomasch is very knowledgeable and passionate about Chaucer and the Middle Ages. However, you are on think ice in her class from the moment it begins. Be on time, participate in discussions, and complete every assignment in a timely fashion to avoid her bad side. She's a tough grader too.

The class wasn't that easy, you'd have to work for it. But looking back, I'd say I learned a lot from her class. She'd definitely help you if you need it. Provided clear instructions on how to write the papers and the final was pretty easy. The class was definitely worth the work.

She is an enthusiastic professor who is always willing to help students. Her grading can be a little tough at first but by following her guidelines and suggestions for improving writing, there is no reason not to do well in her class. Great professor.

Worst instructor I've had in the CUNY system. Gives vague assignments on simple subject matter and grades like an insane person. It doesn't matter how much work you do, she will give you the same grade on every paper. Decimated my GPA with her Mickey Mouse class. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

When I took Professor Tomash for my British Lit class she was ok. She is very strict on her grading but if you show that you are trying, she'll help you out. Remember the rules of thumb: be on time if not early, read the material, or summaries, engage in class, hand in papers on time and seek extra help during her office hrs and you might get a B.

Professor Tomasch is strict, in the sense that you need to go to class, you need to hand in assignments on time, and you must participate, but she is also extremely intelligent. I like her because she doesn't baby you. If you do well, she will congratulate and respect you. If you are willing to put i the work, you'll gain a lot.

Unless you absolutely must take a class taught by Tomasch, stay away. She is actually mean to students! She discourages independent and original thought. Ever heard a prof say "there are no stupid questions" well every question a students asks her she treats as stupid. She has been 10 mins late or more to more than half of the classes. disorganized
