Comment:

Professor Moran is the most intelligent man by whom I've had the pleasure of being taught. He is kind and funny and very eager to hear from students in class. He is a tough grader, very specific in what he wants, and a lot of research is necessary to complete his papers. However, the effort is worth it. My favorite class at NYU so far.

It's obvious that Moran is very intelligent in this field, but this is, by far, the worst class that I have taken at NYU. He makes you write three 10 page papers that are worth 75% of your grade and participation is worth 25%. It is basically impossible to get an A. He leaves rude comments that make you feel horrible. Terrible teacher and class.

Please, for the love of God, do not take this man. He is rude, comes up with outlandish course guidelines, and is extremely condescending. Don't expect nice comments or constructive feedback; just make sure to inhale as much breath as you can every day before class since his ego takes up most of the room. Look closely and he's not even smart.

He is by far the worst professor I had at NYU. He does not elaborate on what he actually wants to see on the paper and if you don't follow the "protocol", you won't get anything higher than a B or C. I went to see him outside of class for the second paper, and everything he told me to put on the paper was "wrong" when he returned it.

Worst professor I had at NYU by far. He's always confused in class. Papers are absolute nightmares. Based on his crazy model, they have no thesis and cause you to repeat yourself incessantly, and then come to no conclusion. His markings are very rude and his grading harsh. Impossible to meet with and gives 5 days to write 10 page papers. 100% awful

Five weeks into the semester and I've never regretted taking a class more. The comments he leaves on ungraded homework assignments are hurtful and upsetting; they make me feel stupid. Do not take this class. I didn't listen to past reviewers. Do not make the same mistake I made unless you want to cry regularly. Beyond rude and terrible.

Lectures are a complete waste of time. Unfortunately he takes attendance so you have to go or get someone to sign you in. Quize's are easy if you study and have a good TA. The key to enjoying this class is having a good TA. That being said, professor Moran is sweet and very understanding. I recommend you take him, you learn a lot.

Moran is the WORST professor I have ever had at NYU. Extremely unreasonable grading and no clear direction was provided. Unreasonable grader, uninteresting class, uninsightful marker, rude human being, and just a pain to be around. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, EVER. You have been warned.

I am a senior at NYU, and he remains the worst teacher I have EVER had at NYU. Horrible. Avoid at all costs. History of Media and Comm with Moran is a class that makes the quality of education at NYU look pathetic.

Worst teacher I have had at NYU. Ridiculous paper guidelines and horrible grading tactics. The point of this class is not to LEARN, the point of this class is to try to guess what he wants you to write, and write about that. You are required to attend class and my grade was actually dropped a grade because I missed two classes more than allotted.

Paper's are silly: ridiculous structure, not cohesive, and fails to resemble an academic paper. Follow his instructions, and avoid using any original thought or creative exploration. His lectures are repetitive and antidotal, and often don't adress the subject. No possibility of a shared learning experience, because he already knows everything...

PROFESSOR MORAN IS THE MOST ADORABLE MAN. HE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND DOWN TO EARTH. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO HIS ESSAYS PERFECTLY AND YOU WILL GET AN EASY A. HE IS NOT LOOKING TO TRICK ANYONE, JUST TRYING TO GET YOU TO FOLLOW HIS LECTURES. IF YOU SHOW UP TO CLASS, YOU MIGHT ALSO MAKE A LETTER GRADE DIFFERENCE. HE RESPECTS STUDENTS WHO RESPECT HIM.

His lectures may be entertaining because he is so knowledgeable and incorporates many anecdotes, but I have not had good experiences with him in person. He has been extremely rude to me and I have witnessed him be rude to other students. It ruined my experience to say the least

Mostly irrelevant anecdotal lectures, but overall a nice guy. Weird essay assignments, but easy once you get the hang of them. The way I found was to number the questions 1-18 and then write the numbers in the book by info that will be helpful in answering that question, b/c then your essay is mostly quotes.

Comment:

I had him for History of Comm and he was so knowledgeable. His essays are really particular, but as long as you follow directions you'll get a good grade. What he talks about in lectures is good info for his essays. Overall a fairly interesting class.
