A brilliant musician & an amusingly quirky guy. He makes seemingly impossible music much easier to understand, and his conducting is clear, precise, & appropriate for the music. He tends to stick with certain people, generally those who are near the top of their studio & enjoy contemporary music, because the parts are exposed & very difficult.

An incredible conductor, mentor, and human. Tim is one of the greatest assets available at Oberlin Conservatory. He expects the best from his students and will love you as long as you work hard. He makes contemporary music fun and make sense. Smart, funny, sometimes intense, and yeah p hot

My experiences with this professor were a major part of the reason I decided to leave Oberlin. The manner in which Weiss ran the Wind Ensemble and Contemporary Music Ensemble had the tendency of marginalizing and excluding a large portion of the musicians in the conservatory. I complained and was "blacklisted". Avoid at all costs.

His conducting is very clear, but takes few artistic liberties, so it is suited to contemporary music. If you like contemporary music, you will probably like him. He can be extremely passive-aggressive towards those he considers close-minded.

I LOVE TIM WEISS! Clear, inspired, and helpful. He does what a good conductor AT AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION should do: teach us! Unlike BMR, he helps us to understand compositions and learn how to play well together: it's not just about getting the right notes and being in tune, but about learning WHAT THIS MUSIC MEANS.

Just make sure you agree with everything he says, or you make it onto his black list (a permanent placement). Not the best conductor, he has a lot of very definite opinions that he'll make known whether you like it or not. He has a tendency to be quite condescending. So long as you're prepared to kiss a** you'll do just fine.
