Comment:

Dr. Barton is a very knowledgeable professor. His class is lecture based and are about his experiences as a psychologist. He can be a bit awkward at times with all the odd noises he makes. All his exams are open ended and he doesn't specify what exactly he wants you write so they can be hard to get an A on. Just read his textbook and pay attention.

This professor is misunderstood. In his lectures, he tells real-life stories that can be tied into the readings. If you keep up on the readings, the tests are incredibly easy to pass. Even skimming the readings will bring you up quite a bit. Class is focused on practicing to become therapists. Really interesting, really awesome.

Dr.Barton is very knowledgable but his class can be very difficult for a beginner psy student. Rely on yourself and the book he chooses if you want to get a decent grade. Does not stay on topic and I don't think he mentioned personality once considering the class title is Psychology of Personality.

He is unorganized. He has no lessons, his lectures are completely spontaneous and I have barely learned anything other than common knowledge. I am a psych major and I'm very disappointed. His tests are nothing like his lectures. Good luck.

DO NOT TAKE his class. He is a very sweet man but his class is very hard because he doesn't discuss the test material in class - mostly just talks about his life. I lost 2 points on an essay quesion for using the word approval instead of acceptance. This was my 1st psych class that I didn't get at least a 90% in.

People don't give this guy enough credit. Yes, his lectures are repetitive and can be boring at times, and his tests aren't the easiest but the assigned text is a brilliant read and the guy himself has studied with some amazing people and has some serious wisdom to pass on. A rare find in a professor. If you're serious about psych, take this guy

Very bad at focusing. Will ramble on for hours at a time about completely unrelated topics. Would rather talk about himself than the material. Does not actually talk about personality, despite the course's title. Very little social filter, and prone to shouting and bizarre behavior during class. Not recommended.

Incoherent. Severe lack of lesson-planning; he repeats himself often. The class is based on his manuscript which is unedited and lacks citation. I would not recommend taking his class if you have real interest in psychological disorders.

The worst teacher I have ever taken!! What a ridiculous professor. I have never met anyone with such an inability to communicate; he would ramble for 50 minutes straight about pure nothing-ness. He made me uncomfortable on several occasions, until I finally got fed up and dropped his class. Only Dr.Barton could ruin a subject I love so much.

Great guy, but a terrible teacher. This was the 2nd class I had to take with him. Would love to have him over for dinner to talk about whatever, but hated his classes. No matter what the class was supposed to be, he talked about Buddhism. Learned absolutely nothing which is a shame, seeing as this could have potentially been an interesting class.

Not recommended at all. He did not have any grades for us until the last week of classes when we had to hand in about 75 pages of work. I got a C in the course even though I did everything plus some. Horrible professor.

"Dr." Barton is one of the worst prefessors anyone could ever have. Not only is he completely crazy, but he is unethical and does not care about students. We only have covered one topic all year and it isn't even backed by any textual evidence other than his own book which he teaches the entire class from and he refuses to give you any grades.

I generally prefer professors who teach by discussion and and example. However, Barton's teaching syle follows no format and he tends to repeat the same concepts many times. He seemed to be more interested in putting on a show than helping students understand material. His voices and pantomiming were distracting and at times innapropriate in class

Dr Barton is a difficult professory--he is unclear and often repeats the same thing every class. However, if you pay attention, stay after class, talk to him, and write EXACTLY what he wants to hear, you'll get an A. It's worth it just to have the stories about his class.

He was not clear in his discussions, assignments, or final review of topics. He never commented on any journal entries/paper we did. When asked what my grade was, he answered "you should know how you're doing." (How am I supposed to know how I am doing, when I have ZERO grades??) Overall, I would never take his class again.

I have never felt like I wasted my money more than with this guy. Had him for 2 classes in a row and apparently teaching isn't high on his list of priorities because he didn't come to class for a month and didn't even have the decency to let any of us know ahead of time. He didn't check our tests ever so nobody knew their grade until it was posted.
