One of my favorite SOC Profs, interesting material and very fair marker, need to go to class to do well but does a lot of class participation which is fun! In the end your mark will reflect your efforts so its all based on you.

Viens is a good teacher, material is always interesting and she always gets the class talking about the material afterwards which can be fun. Shes helpful and what ever work you put into class your mark will reflect it! Shes a really fare teacher!

Viens' classes are worth attending. Her presentation of the material is very dry, but she has a great and open attitude towards new studies, views, and people. She is a very 'particular' marker; not hard or easy, but you have to do it her way. She loves when you draw unique conclusions and go beyond the assigned readings. Participate!!

Overall, (SOC 208, 235, 209, 215) she is a hard marker and tough professor to please on assignments, but she makes us push our boundaries a bit more than usual in order to hand in something extra special. She's not really friendly, but after a while, if you're on her good side, you're fine.

although she marked me well she has a bad attitude and does not encourage people's opinions. her class was my first at bish and i was so effing scared after that first lecture. she memorizes textbooks, and that is probably all she knows. there's a b word out there that can really describe her, if u catch my drift

Viens usually has interesting courses however she butchers them to no end. She is horrible with seminars and her lectures are straight out of the text book. If you can avoid taking a course with her- do.

I'll say this again and again...she is friendly but when it comes to teaching her lectures ressemble your typical board meeting on whether paper clips or staplers should be used.

I thought this class was going to be very interesting, and a few (emphasis on few) parts were. However, the huge disconect between the lectures and the text was very frustrating, as was the paper. The midterm was a toss up because no-one knew what was going to be on it. Lot's of random tangents and vague answers to vague questions.

Prof. Viens doesn't give a lot of info or support on papers and expects a LOT for a first year course. Very opinionated, which can be interesting, but teaching style is not conducive to large groups and is frustrating.

Her classes are very difficult. She expects a lot of her students and isn't very reasonable with her workloads. She also has a very negative view every class which feels very heavy after awhile.

I wouldn't recommend you to take her Woman Studies course. She is a hard marker and her class requires a lot of reading. For midterm, she expected her students to complete the exam in 1H30; the exam consited of 7 short answer questions and 2 essay questions.
