His Taoism class is insightful and interesting. There is a lot of reading and writing (summaries, papers, etc). If you show him you are doing the readings, he will respect you and give you better grades. The material is not easy, but it is inherently kind of easier than other classes (I think).

This is my first time taking a class with Professor Lian and he is very nice, funny, and tries to ensure that the whole class understands the material. He wants the best for his students. Definitely willing to help outside class, just ask. It's a very easy class if YOU JUST TRY. many don't have the best grades bc they slack off. not his fault

Lian laoshi is an amazing professor! He will say whatever is on his mind, is very funny, and genuinely cares about the progress of his students. In class he explains things very well, and will take a concept slowly if you do not understand. In addition to class time, he is willing to meet outside of class if you need extra help. 10/10!

A great man, very funny, but he does not care about political correctness, which makes for interesting classes. Will assume that all students of Asian descent are/speak Chinese. Very wise, knows EXTENSIVELY what he is talking about. Homework is intense, and necessary. Papers take a LONG time to do. Overall, a great professor.

Prof Lian is amazing. He is incredibly funny and is so passionated about what he is teaching. Everybody knows this guy is good guy, but don't let this fool you when it comes to grades. He can be hard. Take a class with him if you are interested in learning something, because believe me, you will. Great class. I enjoyed it.

Good class, good prof. My only complaint is that if you don't give him EXACTLY what he said, in his own words, you don't get full credit for it. He also hasn't given anyone in this class more than a 9/10 on a paper yet.

Professor Lian is a treasure, a man of singular kindness and humor--not to mention staggering amounts of learning. I took his philosophical taoism class through a course-sharing program with Kenyon College, and even over a TV uplink he was fantastic. I would kill to protect this man.
