Calming presence. Easy to learn something new. Constructive criticism in a way that actually helps and doesnt discourage you. Great discussions. Good guy, good teacher.

Comment:

Dr. Holmes is a pretty good professor. He's a no-nonsense type and he makes his expectations very clear. It's definitely not an easy A. You'll have to actually work for it. Reading quizez before class are pretty easy, and they're only on short stories, not poetry. If you do the readings and show up, there's no way you won't pass.

A fine professor, if you don't have another option. He's a very tough grader and feedback was rarely helpful. His prompts were also unclear. You have to read and go to class because he gives quizzes on short stories (not poems). He doesn't actually teach. He stands and asks for people to ask questions, it was terrible. I would suggest someone else.

He is a decent person. He will help you if you ask, but don't expect him to go out of his way. The papers are graded pretty tough and there are only 4 of them. He is a really nice guy and is a little over kill on trying to not offend people. Just go to class and read and you'll make it.

You have to know exactly what his analysis of the work is and basically just give it back to him, otherwise you are wrong. This is not just coming from one angry student either. My entire honors class is upset and frustrated with this professor as he refuses to consider others' viewpoints, regardless of how much textual support he/she has.

Reading quizzes literally everyday, so you better read & you better show up. I'd consider myself a pretty good writer, but the highest grade I'd ever get on an essay in the class was an A-. He's usually alright but there are days when he can be sortof testy... But, like I said, generally cool.

Dr. Holmes is a fantastic teacher. I don't know why many students give negative evaluations of him. He's got a delightfully dry sense of humor and gives excellent lectures. He doesn't just give out As, but at the same time I think he is a fair grader. I have taken two of his classes and would definitely take another!

I had Dr. Holmes for Honors Topic English. The topic was superheroes, but even though I wasn't initially into the topic, he did make it interesting. He's a very smart man who knows his stuff. Expectations in the class are clear. He grades well and gives good feedback. Very willing to help. Lots of discussion, but was interesting. Would take again.

Dr. Holmes knows his stuff. He grades rather intensely, but his criticism taught me a lot. He doesn't hand out A's and there's a lot of reading, but if you work hard you should be fine. Take him if you can.

My favorite professor. Makes the class interesting, makes you laugh, and he loves referring to pop culture jokes. Has sort of a funny/serious manner about him. The essays are not that difficult, just time consuming. Be sure to read the stories assigned he gives quizzes on them frequently. Dont be afraid to email him! I would highly encourage him.

If you take his class be prepared to take a graduate level course. He grades papers HARSHLY, with confusing feedback. The reading is huge, but I enjoy to read. This is the worst teacher I have EVER had online. This is also the only class I have ever cried over. So you make up your mind.

SOOO much reading! I took this class online, and there was a ridiculous amount of reading. As long as you keep up with the work, you'll be ok. But i found myself struggling constantly to meet deadlines. He has high expectations and little remorse. Keep him happy and you'll do well.

Brit Lit II - he knows the material and is good at interpreting it, but he doesn't allow you to have your own opinion about the works at all. He's critical on comments and your writing.He will require you to back up your opinion. No one used discussion boards after the 1st week because they were afraid of his critical comments. Stressful class

Took his online british lit class and it was challenging to say the least. Lots of reading and 4 essays. Lecture notes are pretty detailed and I learned a lot from just reading them. Pretty critical of your papers so don't be too sensitive. Overall a pretty decent professor at least online.

Holmes has an amazing wit and has influenced my career. He assisted me in getting into a graduate program. What I learned in the numerous classes I took from him has made an amazing impact on my career. Students will do well in his class if they are well prepared as they should be. Holmes never belittled any student and is very helpful. Take him!

i have never met a professor who belittles his students in class. this man is mean and his teaching method is horrible. he made several students cry in our class because of his egotistical and arrogant know it all attitude!
