Comment:
This professor assigns way too many readings, he doesn't explain assignments clearly. He gets annoyed and rude if you ask for clarification, even when he wasn't clear. He seems to forget when he doesn't explain things to the class and no one knows whats going on. You will do well if you are European or are an athlete, extra good if you are both.

Lots of reading. He is not clear about assignments/expectations, then is upset. You will do well if you read all the overwhelming readings he assigns and if you play sports or are a foreign student. He really likes athletes and will greet you every single class with a smile. If you are not, he ignores you. This has been observed by many in class.

Super charismatic guy. Lectures aren't needed. Had to buy 3 books which were necessary to answering the study guide questions he gave before mt + final. No need to read them at all, just make sure to use the back of the books to find the page numbers to answer such. Papers are easy. Go to office hrs and show some effort if you want an A!

Professor Saragoza is so knowledgeable & passionate about the material (topic was migration) and makes class pretty enjoyable. There were guests lecturers every Thurs & it was really inspirational. Grading was a mess/slow and so were deadlines+clear expectations of the class in general. 2 papers, 2 tests, 2 required fieldtrips and 1 final project.

I took an arts class on immigration and migration and these were some of the most interesting lectures I have intended (and in the BAMPFA!), and I am not even in the humanities. Only complaint was that he (and this could be part GSI fault) was an extremely slow grader- amazing lectures/ poor administration. If you go to class it is easy.

One of a kind professor. You don't have to read every line of the reading, but remember the key points he goes over in class. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He gives the inside scoop on what to keep in mind for the midterm and final. No homework, just a lot of dense reading. He speaks fast and will eventually call on you, so be ready to write. Very humorous.

Professor is very passionate about what he lectures, however, the GSI can make or break your grade. Some will grade extremely harsh while others will be more lenient. Not too bad of a class to take if you're taking it P/NP.

He's an amazing teacher. I enjoyed my time with him, his office hours are helpful and he will lose sleep just to help you and clarify things, seriously one of the best teachers I have had. He makes his lectures funny so you're not half asleep throughout the lectures. He makes sure to know your name and make you feel welcomed.

He was great, took him for a summer course and do not regret the experience. All his lecture were very interesting and knowledgeable. We also watched a lot of videos in his class so that helped time pass by. He has a midterm and a final with some quizzes along the way. You also have some essays to write that range from 5 to 8 pages but are easy.

Perhaps the best professor with whom I've taken a Chicano Studies course at Cal. His lectures on Mexican Immigration were simply fantastic, well-organized and really well outlined! His midterms included a short essay and an in-class final. Besides, when he can he organizes a field trip to Napa to the wine fields.

Friendly, funny, and pretty interesting. Lectures are at times a little scattered but generally pretty easy to follow. Saragoza is very helpful, especially in office hours (where he gives great test tips). Took EthStu 21AC over summer and loved it.

He is extremely helpful. Just make sure to do the readings and DON'T HESITATE to ask about something you don't get. He will pressure you to ask him questions about the stuff that you don't understand. He will also truly about the world around and is EXTREMELY HELPFUL.

Saragosa is a nice guy but he is crazy unorganized. He didn't tell us deadlines with enough notice. He strings his lectures together with jokes instead of talking about the readings and tries way too hard to entertain students. Overall he is a fun teacher but if you actually want to learn I wouldn't recommend him.

Great, entertaining lectures, however his class requires waaaaay too much work, and it's just a lower div class, i have other stuff to worry about!! If you keep up you should be fine. and at the right light and angle he kinda looks like robert deniro :P

He is very passionate about what he teaches, but as far being a good professor, I can't emphasize enough how unorganized he is. The reading schedule was messed up, did not match lecture and was behind the midterm! Also, if you email him, do not expect a response. Go to his office hour and make sure he knows you. It helps your grade.

Great professor, very insightful especially for those of hispanic background who could relate to material covered. Definitely have to do some work but not as difficult as he made it seem. Read the material assigned and go to office hours , very possible to get an A.

Best Professor I've had at Cal so far. His lectures are great. No notes, but he knows so much about what he's talking about, and somehow managed to keep me totally interested for 2 hours of lecture everyday. He's also very approachable. Grading is easy too.
