Comment:
Nance would be a good professor to those who are auditory learners. The only grades in his class are exam grades (and there are 5 of them - including the final) and he provides no extra credit. Personally, I did not find this class to be fun, the atmosphere was very dry and the class was very boring. Would not recommend taking him.

He should not be a professor here. He only grades 5 tests throughout the entire course (100-level). He does not give any study guides and expects you to know everything about history (dates, names, specifics, etc.). This has been the hardest class I have ever had to take, and I am a junior premed. Prepare to teach yourself all the course material.

I love history but I had a very hard time in his class, if you are an auditory learner you will love him but if you rely on visuals like myself you are screwed. He is a very nice guy and I really respect him, I just had a hard time in his course, especially for it only being a 100 level course. Only grades are tests...

Honestly all you have to do is show up to class and take notes and you will do fine. He's a really nice guy and is willing to answer all of your questions. Basically lays out your tests for you all you have to do is look over your notes and answer the study questions and you are good to go!

I wasn't going to rate Nance at first, but then I saw a post from someone else in the same class. The other student is right. Class was very boring. Hard to stay awake. Def long and drawn out. He would start lecturing and then just zone out (it was actually pretty strange). Takes forever to get your grades back. I WILL never take him again.

Nance would always say the tests come from lecture, but I always took notes and did not make anything but 70-72 on every single test. I hated this class. Dry, boring, and makes it feel like a 300 level class when its really just a basic history class everyone has to take. I am having to take again because I made a D.

Dr. Nance is fantastic. This class in particular is reading-intensive, but the discussions afterward really made it a lot of fun. He's really smart and will accept whatever you think/say about the material so long as you can back it up. Highly recommended.

This teacher knows and instructs writing well. If you put in the effort you will get a good grade. Very helpful and mostly lenient. Keep up with assignments and you can skip a few classes.

Very good teacher. Follows the lectures and readings for tests. Material is a bit intense, but he makes it manageable. The paper is make or break for your grade.

Really easy class!!!! I'm kind of a history person but can get very bored in history classes and even fall asleep as I have in the past. He loves history so listening to him is easy. As long as u take good notes during class which should b easy cuz he gives u an outline u will do fine!! His online quizzes r out of the book but u can also google the answers. Just take good notes review ur notes the day of the test and be able to wrote an essay and ull do fine!!!

I had Nance for 101 and unlike some of the other students who commented, I loved him. He has a tendency to mumble and speak quickly, but if you take good notes and make sure you know how to answer the questions he posts at the beginning of each lecture, you'll be okay. Also, he's pretty cute, so sitting in the first few rows would be advisable.

I have had Nance for 101, Tudor/Stuart, Enlightenment and currently Early Modern Med. and Science. He is an amazing professor. He truly enjoys teaching and is very intelligent. Willing to help you out if you talk to him. His upper levels require reading for the quizzes, yet if you come to class and take good notes the tests aren't that bad.

Attend every single class or you won't pass this class. The tests are hard and when the whole class fails he will not curve the grade. He does know a lot about the subject and his tests aren't impossible to get a B in. You must read the book and study for at least a week in advance. I studied three days in advance all day everyday and I have a C.

The class is based on a lecture and powerpoint. No homework is given and only 4 tests for the whole semester. If you do horrible on the tests, then you do horrible in general.

read read read, that's all I did. Tests are all written essays. Study your ass off and you'll do okay. He's fair, but it takes him weeks to return simple 2 question quizzes. He misses more classes than students are allowed to! Nice guy,but always 5 minutes late, holds us over 10 minutes KNOWING we have other classes. One of the worst classes I took
