Comment:
Professor Petersen is great and truly wants his students to succeed. He offers multiple opportunities to receive extra credit and is willing to listen to class feedback. His tests always have subtle tricks that expose students who do not study, but he typically hints at these in advance if you listen. He has a great energy each day and is fun.

Worst Professor I have experienced at NIU. His powerpoint notes are not created by himself. His powerpoint notes can be found on the internet that are used my non-AACSB colleges. Last half of the semester he would not lecture and it was basically a pointless "hanging out session". Hurts the OMIS reputation.

Dr. Petersen's class was definitely entertaining. He is available outside of class if need be and he cares about his students. There are several group assignments throughout the semester, so sit by people you want to be grouped with on the first day. Homework is tough and time consuming. Tests are also very difficult.

Petersen frequently ends class early. He flies through course material fairly quickly and will never reference the text book, do not buy it. He does a poor job of applying real world scenarios for his lectures and will often tell his class that he will not test your understanding of the material. Do well on the HW and you will be fine.

Comment:
Dr. Petersen's background is in Engineering, and it comes across in his teaching style. He gives very easy examples in class (talks quickly and peppers the lectures with dumb jokes) but the homework is twice as difficult as the examples, and the tests are even more challenging. Book is useless, save your money.

Charles is a good dude. The homework and projects will keep you busy. The material is challenging, but quite transferable to our day jobs. He teaches some good applications of Excel, which was super valuable and really brings some of the concepts to settings we'd see in business.

He's a pretty funny guy and can keep you entertained. His tests aren't really over too much content but you still need to look over the practice problems. They are very similar to the tests. Pretty sick class, you should take it. I also, wouldn't buy the book.

I think that Prof. Peterson does a great job teaching this class. Like the comments below I was able to get the grade I wanted by keeping up with the assignments and utilizing the practice problems posted on Blackboard. My only criticism is that toward the end the of the semester the amount of work tends to be a bit heavier than in the beginning.

One of the best professors in the MBA program. Great sense of humor and you learn a lot. Do not buy the textbook, he never even references it. Do the practice problems before the tests and you will do fine.

An "A" can be achieved by paying attention in class, and understanding how to do the handout and extra problems. Petersen's power points and extra problems are all you need. Return the textbook. Petersen answered questions in class & responded to emails the same day. I learned a lot, Petersen is a good prof & used real world examples.

Nice guy, very poor professor.Strays off-track and doesn't help ensure complete understanding of the material. Final contained elements that were barely touched on in class. he does NOT ensure you understand the material

Really fun teacher, jokes around during class and makes it a fun environment. gives you what you need for exam, first one was open book/notes so just make a template and do it. easy assignments, easy exams, offers extra credit. overall a good professor.

Tests were NOTHING like the examples he told us to study, really confusing wording of the questions that were hardly touched on in class. If he offers an extra credit - take it even if it looks like you don't need it going into the final.

He is a great person. But he is lacking as a professor. He covers material VERY quickly. His test questions are nothing like his examples or practice questions. Also - he told us that he would curve the midterm for final grades and didn't.

Very helpful, but the tests are confusing. If you come to class, pay attention and ask questions you shouldn't have problems. The two tests he administers need to be studied for.

This guy is the worst teacher I have ever had. I would not recommend him. He barely touches on the lessons but his tests are ridiculous.
