Comment:

Debra is super sweet and acting is a super fun class & great if you want to be social. Not a good class or prof if you're looking for a challenge or want to avoid socializing at all costs. Good intro to acting & fun experience overall though!! Very easy A as well

Comment:

Good professor, but "work days" felt like a waste of time. Easy homework; you show up - you get credit. Biggest complaint: she doesn't use Canvas to alert students to class cancellations, so you never knew when class was cancelled. I wasted time and gas just to be greeted by a "No class" sign on the door. Beware of that. Decent professor.

Comment:

Debra is a nice teacher, but the class is nothing like I wanted. Some days Youll go to class and find out that its been canceled. Other days we will just do a silly 5 minute acting game that you wont learn anything from and then get out early. Overall a good class if you want an easy A, bad class is you actually want to learn something.

Debra is a wonderful teacher. The class is very easy, just do the activities and you'll pass the class. The activities are fun to do and you get an overview of what you learned.

DO NOT MISS SCENIC PAINTING! This class teaches basic and useful painting techniques and technical lingo. It's fun and easy going. Debra will ask each student what you learned and what could be better from each project. Prepare to literally watch paint dry. You don't need to be an artist for this course, trust me. Was my favorite of all her courses

Debra is a sweetheart. Little to no homework- but must study for exams. Has a review before every test- though I always felt like she never truly covered what was on it. Class is cancelled frequently, which can be a bummer. You will learn also from Patrick and Thor and have hands on experience. She cares about her student success and comfort level

Debra is such a sweet heart! The easiest A ever, you just show up and do your work and you'll get an A for sure! She grades you for creativity, neatness and it being on time, and that's it! You're graded on what other people in the class think you deserve and most of the time it's a perfect score! Easiest A+ ever!

It took awhile for things to get rolling in this class, but it ended with scene presentations and monologues. I expected to learn more from this class, but I still walked away with some good information. You are required to attend two musicals/plays, keep a journal, and do some presentations.

Debra is great! It's sad that she has so many medical issues, which is why she has classes canceled sometimes or has someone else show an example of the work. But if you have questions or need help she is there! She is very sweet and kind and loves her class and it spreads to her students. Any theater major should take all of her classes!

Comment:

she appears to be enthusiastic about her classes, but she cancels class more than most. She will often ignore you when you are struggling at times. She doesn't always know what she's teaching and has to ask other students with experience to teach certain dance moves. I learned more from watching youtube videos than from her classes.

As an "older" student I took this class because it sounded interesting. If I was a Drama Major, I'd avoid this instructor at all costs. She has little understanding of the "teachable moment". Students who took acting in High School probably learned exponentially more than in this class. An Easy A, Sure, but is that what you really want?

She's great! Cancels classes sometimes but its good for me because have time to catch up on homework. Everythig you do is on the test so if you study your notes, will be a piece of cake. I started loving theatre because of this amazing teacher!

Comment:

She is a very nice person, but she does not take her job seriously. Did not receive syllabus until halfway through semester, but was expected to have been doing assignments listed in syllabus the whole time. I learned way more in high school drama. Very flighty and disorganized. She cancels or doesn't show up so often that I dropped this class.

Comment:

Debra is a great person. But she is not very clear and contradicts statements she made earlier. If you want a class to learn you might consider another professor due to the fact she often has to miss classes.

Comment:

She's a great teacher and she genuinely enjoys what she does. Very enthusiastic and is good at keeping the attention of the class. Tests were easy - all questions are reviewed. Some movies are boring but she never caught me snoozing. ;) It's the easiest A I've ever gotten. All memorization. Definitely recommended.

Comment:

The semester begins by playing fun games on stage everyday. You will laugh so hard and make many new friends. Make sure to keep up on your journal though because its easy to get behind on! She cancels class a lot for real reasons but is still very reliable when you have to do your presentations. I loved coming to class!

Comment:

I've had Debra Hammond for almost all of my theater classes and I adore her. She's super understanding and makes everything so much fun. Yes, she has cancelled class on multiple occasions but those times were due to things beyond her control. She's super fun and makes class enjoyable! Just don't miss too many or you'll start to fall behind fast!

Comment:

She disregarded the syllabus within the first two weeks of class and could not keep control of the class. While this was a costume construction class, it was more of an introduction to sewing with little to no information regarding theatre production. Classes were often cancelled which did little to help those already failing the class.
